Re: bad mag for sale
Jerry, like i said, this was way i did it most of the time, but a lot depended on whare the rot was and how much the customer was willing to spend.Working alone it was hard for me to handle a whole transome in one piece.Good luck. Mel

Alright ,
Cut my baby open - Not as bad as I thought . The boat had twins in it before , and where the old drive holed were filled , there was much rot . There is some other rot in the original transom wood , only at the drain plug and raw water inlet .
Since I had it apart , I took out the engine stringers also . Might as well do it 100% since its apart . Looks like she"ll live .
Anyway , I am awaiting on a quote for the repair . Should have her back in prime condition ; maybe even put her back on the race course .
Love that boat !!

Jmemoli take a look at the superboat boat link, then go to superbabi thread, I think you will find the pic's help full for your transom rebuild.Page's #1 to#5, Pic #77 showes a great way to put the transom wood in, two piece the wood around the drain plug then glass it up real good the drain plug rot won't happen again. You have a Great Mag,, worth all the work you are doing!!

After 15 grueling hours , the transom is wood free . I will try to post some pics -
The hardest thing was getting the wood out from around the stringers. The transom is 1/2" thich of just fiberglass. No wonder these boats hold up so well .
Anyway , hope to get it into a glass shop first week of January . Here is a fresh pic I got yesterday from Bob Gohegan from Ocean City Maryland .
Dam I love this boat !

Guys , looking for a little input on X dimension .
currently set at 16 " -
Rich Sutphen is handling the glass repair on the transom and will be glassing up the old hole and replacing the 2 engine stringers .
Perfect opportunity to get the X up a bit .
Mel , any others what do you think ?
My old Pantera was set at 17" , which seemed to work pretty well .

Re: bad mag for sale
Jmemoli, good to hear you got Ritchy working on your tran.,hes the best in my book. When i got ready to cut the hole on vixen, after getting at least 20 different ansewers i went and taulked to Richy. He thought 17 would be about right.Well the more i thought about it,and that someday i still wanted to ues her for a pleasure boat i went with 16 an half.I use a 15 an a quarter 26 or 28 labd bravo 1 prope depending on what speed an rpm i want to run.I never have had the prope break loose on a tight turn and i never had to drope the tabs to get on plane. I must be pertty close because when i tried going with a quarter inch smaller diamiter it broke loose in the turns an i had to use tabs to get on plane.I always wonderd about 17 though.Taulk to Ritchy.but i was happy with 16an half.
