magnum 25- engine choice
#21
Sorry Bud , not to be disrespectful or anything , but Magnum used the Morse MT3 control unit on those boats. Whether single or twin engined , they had only one stick (throttle an shift combined ) per engine..in stock form as best I can recall ... Mine had the original MT3 single stick with red shifter hand ball.. Nearly all of the units had a red ball. Two sticks or one.
As a matter of fact , the twin engined boat that I was running around in at the time that our Mag was new also had the Morse MT3 twin control unit ... Exactly the same as the ones seen in the brochure boat pics , red shifter knobs and all. IMO , they were unquestionably twin engine installations .
The units you show are different than the MT3s and generally were on (larger ?) boats where a seperate shift and throttle mechanism were wanted .
I remember running around on a Matlese 28 in the mid 70's or so ..It too had the MT3 twin control box ..Two sticks , two red knobs.

You are not being disrespectfull...this is always a learning process.I will check the other control I have and see if I have the right one.The two or 3 25's I have seen had a 2 handle setup like my current 25. See picture below. Bud

In both cases are they the single lever MT3 units ? Red shift knobs ?
In case it's lost as to why I've gone off on this Morse control unit tangent it's because when I heard that captrod's 25 was originally green , and they 'reportedly' only made two of that colour , I figured that he must have had the brochure boat. But as it turns out , his was originally a single engined 25 and the brochure boat (I'm sure) is a twin.
Bud said the brochure boat was a single but you can see a twin MT3 unit in the picture ... and an old factory worker told my brother that the brochure boat was a twin too .
So I went off on this control unit tangent to ttry and help clarify things.
Bbj/ can you show us a pic or two of your 25 ?

I started working on the Magnum. Cut out the bow eye as it was rotted and will glass in new backing plate. Any one with engine suggestions please advise. It has a brand new transom.

I bought 25 from Gerald. I can say it was set up for a single engine. Very hard to tell what the original color was as there is green, blue, and looks to me like the topcoat was black.
