----Short Circuit----

----Short Circuit is finally coming home!!! Bought new at Emerald City Marine in 1976 and raced out of Algonac for 30 years, it just seemed right that this 27 Sport comes back to the Lake Saint Clair area. No racing anymore as she has proven herself many, many times over already, but hopefully theres a lot of fun left!!!. Pictures to follow, or just Google "Short Circuit Magnum"..........Bill S

This is Bill's latest addition to his fleet of Thunder Boat Row boats, SHORT CIRCUIT. I believe this Magnum has more real offshore racing miles & wins than any Magnum that has ever raced. It's gone through many powertrain changes over the years racing from 1976 to 2006 but still can run with the best of today's latest creations . Here are few pic's from it's new & old home here in Michigan...

Here is the web site for Short Circuit.

It makes so much sense for SC to be back on LSC...............Congratulations Bill !!!...........I'm curious what number hull is SC?
Was she custom built for racing -or- was she a regular stock 27 when she left TBR? .............'76 was the Apeco years right?

Pete Short Circuit was hull # 27-333 & one of the last Magnums that Emerald City sold. It was a special order by Russ Zablocki [in the time of the faster Trs 280Merc package were the norm ] with pair of Crusader 305cu 220hp engines to race in a APBA production class. Most of the boats in this class were 250 Wellcraft Novas running twin 302cu Ford engines, this Magnum cleaned house. Other than the powertrain package this Mag was a stock boat. Mark

That's great Bill, glad to hear, congrats. Wasn't she out west last? Tahoe or something? Cant wait to hear how she runs.

----Prior good guy owner (Julian) was living in Reno and boating on Tahoe. He took a job that I think will be very labor intensive in Alberta and felt that he wouldn't be able to take care of SC for several years. After an overseas sale failed we sort of came to the conclusion that enough was enough. There was, at least, talk that the European buyer was going to put a different deck on the boat which, in my estimation, would have been a travesty. That wont happen on our watch!!!!!........Bill S

Mario L. 08-30-2014 07:29 PM

WOW........how is one guy going to run all these boats?
Congratulations Bill! Can't wait to read your first launch report.

Bill,

So glad to see you will be bringing her back home.

Can't wait to see it. Should be a lot of fun.

Take care Chris

Bill & I worked on her yesterday & she would be ready to go but it would now be a P-4 boat, just need to take out the carburetor stops.. :drink::drink::drink::drink:

Joules 09-04-2014 10:16 PM

Bill,

She is looking good I her new home, the sale still brings a a tear to my eye, but I know she is in great hands.

I guess I will have to change my avatar!

Have fun,
Julian

olredalert 09-05-2014 08:29 AM

----Julian,,,Dont change a thing! You stepped up to the plate when you bought SC and kept it in good shape back when there were doubts about its condition (unfounded). You deserve the Avatar! That pic is one of the best out there. And,,,Mario,,,Funny, I was going to go down to the races and spectate, but the Selfridge AFB Air Show is this weekend and I cant miss that. Its awesome!!!........Bill S

Mario L. 09-05-2014 08:33 AM

Bill,

Register and enter the boat, I'm flying out!
Jeff is coming in after Cowes, he's primed . . . go watch the stuff pulled by propellers, we'll play with your other toys . . can we use the Riva as a Team Support boat?

Greeting from Reid . .

Short Circuit made it out on Lake St Clair yesterday & navigated to the Tin Fish Tiki bar, if this Mag could talk I bet it would say it's good to be back home !! :ernaehrung004:

Mario I need to break Bill in slowly to the Magnum life style, ;) as it's a Mag not like the Donzi that he is use too. :party-smiley-004:

olredalert 09-09-2014 04:33 PM

----Mario,,,Mark is so correct! Im still in a bit of a learning stage. Anything airborn may have to wait a few. I haven't been over 75 mph in a while. Probably since I sold the last Corsican. Judging by how much my cheeks are flapping we have already been above that by a bump, and we weren't anywhere near trimmed right ( GPS is not functioning at present). Its all good though as I have a GREAT crew chief. Can you guess who it is? Oh,,, you only get 1 guess! On the plus side, SC is super stable and, like Marks "Screwdriver", has absolutely superior handling. Steering is especially good. Love this Mag..........Bill S

Cheeks flap with age at 35 mph . . . :evilb: :boat: :)

One ride in Bills Mag is like having a California face lift.:D:D:D

olredalert 09-09-2014 06:19 PM

----Carefull there, Mario! I have 17 years on ya. Im still hangin in there, even though it sometimes seems like its only by a thread.......Bill S

scippy 09-09-2014 07:38 PM

Bill SC can finally breath optimum air flow through it's engines now it's back to normal altitude on LSC..........What's the ride like compared to your other boats?

Mario L. 09-09-2014 08:15 PM

Bill,

I'm 58 . . . .I hope you haven't reached 75 yet . . . if you have, you're the youngest 75 I've ever known!!

Bill,

Keep the posts and photos coming, it's great to see SC being enjoyed and she looks right at home on Lake St. Clair.

When your cheeks start to pucker you know you are going fast enough :)

Julian

olredalert 09-09-2014 09:28 PM

----Mario,,,Dont know where I thought I saw that you just turned 50. Really trying to make you feel like the kid you are. Just the kind of guy I am I guess. Although I have to say, at times I feel like Im 75 lately.

----Joules,,,With a bit of experience hopefully Ill be pushing past the pucker point soon. So far all is good, although we had a few teething problems before we even got started.

----Scippy,,,My other boats are basicly pleasure boats. Hard to make comparisons except that the 27 Sport hull is exceptionally forgiving. So far Mark, Chuck and I are really pleased with the current mph. I have to work on the trim as that's where any more speed is at with the present set-up......Bill S

floatingphil 09-10-2014 07:27 AM

Nice Mag Bill. Congrats on the new boat.

TMITCHELL 11-20-2014 02:42 PM

Bill,
Joules was going to get me pictures of the decal/plate for the flap indicator. I am restoring the #1 Maltese and can see where it had this style of indicator. I am hoping to be able to come up with something to use. Thanks.
Tom

P.S. hope maybe i can get a pictiure or 2 from you.

Tom this is a pic of the trim & tab indicators, is this what you want ? Tabs are on the port side. Mark

TMITCHELL 11-22-2014 11:16 AM

Yes. I need a closer picture, or if you know where I can get the decals/plates it would be greatly appreciated. I have guages for the drives. There are cable holes and screw holes where that style of indicators were.

Bill,

I think winter is boring, and there's evidence you're at work on something . . I think we need an update ;-)

olredalert 01-19-2015 09:36 AM

----Thanks for thinking of me, Mario! You're right, finally I have gotten back up to speed on the Spitfire with major help from my crewchief, Mark. The hull and deck were finished almost 4 years ago, but the Fino got in the way. We will post pictures when we can. Also doing some small stuff to Short Circuit. Its in storage, but I do have access to it till I can get it home in the spring, if that ever comes. Exhaust needed a bit of rehab and we needed to muffle it a bit as well. I don't want the popos haunting me next summer. Also wanted to replace the welded up sheetmetal valvecovers, and maybe straighten out some of the wiring. Hows your money pit? Seems like its almost done.......Bill S
