Mag 25 update

Hey Wildfire...
When you see the pictures of what we started with you'll probably wonder why the boat never made it to the dump before we found it.!The article originally was a boatie technophobe's dream.. filled with facts, figures and how to do's.By the time it made it into print it read more like a social visit from Martha Stewart. Also there was a number of pictures of it in the works stage ..all in colour but no FINISHED photos of it in colour..and there was a few nice ones too. What can you expect from Flint publishing ?Can't complain about being in international boat magazine though ....Your choice of an Arneson drive is very interesting ,what led you to this drive choice ? Personally I like the simplicity but I'm not sure if this boat will run like it's supposed to with this system.Remember the Arneson was't invented when these 25's were built and I have read a few articles over the years that said that Arnesons really only work well in boats specifically designed for them,or boats with LOTS of rocker in the bottom.. not trying to worry you.. just a thought !
Ours runs surprisingly level even when trimmed out max... when it gets the wind under it though its a totally different boat. The relatively level running angle could be attributed to the B3 unit though.Keep the chat coming...

Steve,
The simplicity of the system and the smooth shifting transmission are what attracts me to the Arneson. Also, full hydraulic steering. My Volvo flops back and forth (0.75" play)
I spend quite a bit of time over on the Donzi.net and they are real high on the Arnesons. George is running his 18 at 100+, from what I have read he had some problems not getting enough bow lift, so he put a horizontal wing on the skeg of the drive. This forces the drive down and the bow up.
We'll see what happens, the drive has to be rebuilt first and there are a lot of parts to buy. It will be a year or better before the hull gets wet again.
If you have any finished pics, send em too me. I'll post on my webpage if you want.
Thanks,
Scott

Hey Scott ......
Sounds like you're not going in blind ... good !
My brother has a few pics on his computer.. none of the completed boat though (I think).I know he would like to send some pics and he does have the dig.camera now so we'll see what we can come up with .He is now perusing this site too,so this will hopefully serve as some impetus.
What motor are you hoping to run with the Arneson ?
I'm out of here for the weekend...see ya on Monday am..

Jerod, the trailer was just sold, I mean like yesterday, to a person out of St. Louis. The boat is coming along. We've had a few delays here and there, but forward momentum is being maintained.
Steve, I am looking for a BBC. I want big inches and low compression for good solid power all weekend long. Nothing fancy or high tech, just the basics. There have been several 502/509/540 motors that have caught my eye - 500hp is what the boat needs, I think. A real nice looking 540 went for
$4600 on ebay this week. Right motor, wrong time. Let me know on those photos. I'll be happy to post them on my boat page.
Das, what is your hull number. This makes 3 25's in one piece that I know of. Jerod told me there was one in Canada, that's four. And there was another on USAuctions a few months back, but it was burned up/melted. It still went for just over $2K, that's 5.

Hi Scott,
I understand that Andrew e-mailed some pics to you..I think you got a better selection than I thought he had. There is'nt any real early stage shots in there .. the Hot Boat issue will give you a much better idea though of what it began as..
He said that you might have a few questions to ask.... just let me know. !
