As far as the top end...... With 625's, I would guess that boat somewhere in that window your talking about. Upper 90's maybe a shot at 100. The little time I spent in the boat, it seemed like a little weight front could help.
I know of a boat in Havasu with 750 Phaffs and it runs in the 110'ish range (so I've been told). I've seen the boat do 105.
I think the problem with the Ilmors is they get there HP from reving, 6000 RPM. Boats need torque to run. The Merc runs better since they are rated at 5200 RPM. Torque generally falls off hard after 5250 unless there is a blower. The ideal RPM for a non blower motor is 5400, about 1000 RPM after peak torque. If you look at a dyno curve, compare the ILmore at 1000 rpm after peak torque to compare to a Merc. engine or any other engine. 650 HP on 3 different dynos can be way off.

The boat runs into a wall in the mid 90's in my opinion. It will take big torque to croos it. It takes more hp per mph to keep it going than it takes to get through the upper 80's.

Sounds encouraging to me

You live in a beautiful place. My wife and I were married there and stayed at the top of the resort in CDL. Also bought our first powerboat (Mirage) there from Skip at Specialty Sales (?).

Thanks,
Dave

Specialty is still around... Not really sure what boats they carry though..

Still a beautiful place, you guys should come up for our regatta this year.. All boats and boaters welcome. Last year we had a couple hundred boats and sh!t loads of good times.
