I believe they actually did start building the 496 boats with a lower X a couple of years ago. I delivered an '07 and the measured X was about 1" lower than an 06' I had. They probably raised it back up on the higher HP boats, thinking they would perform better. Who knows!
They do insist on water testing every boat now. I watched them test my 35 Flame last December in the dark...ran it wide open! But, they don't do any fine tuning.
I think Chris was very fortunate to have a really good dealer (OCM) to help him work through his setup. That's where the dealer really comes into the picture. They should work with the customer to get the boat set up correctly for where and how it will be used.

Jim your boats runs great! (Very low slip # great speed ) Best 28ft Nordic i have ever driven.
if you raise your X your slip # will go up. and your speed will go down. With that being said Nordic did a great job on your set up. 88 mph with a 710 Ilmor in a 28ft Heat is somthing to be happy about.
I agree that you are down some RPM'S. Have you ever asked Ilmor why your motor wont pull a 26 pitch prop over 5800 RPM'S?

Initial testing of the 27 Hering is in:
4000 rpm 63.3mph 7.1% slip
5100 rpm 80.6mph 7.0% slip
A baseline was established before running this prop by running my Merc Lab 28 at 5400 = 81mph, 15 minutes before running the Hering.
As compared to the Merc 28, speed at 4k was up 4.3mph.
Acceleration over the Merc 28 was very noticable.
Boat handlng is much improved at top end.
The Hering is much smoother at all speeds.
The slip numbers knocked my socks off!
I will be talking to Hering tommorow to see what needs to be done to get another 200-300 rpm out of this prop, and see if we can get some more speed.
Overall, this is the best prop I have run to date, and simply georgous.
Chris
P.S. Thankyou to Tim at OCM for doing this testing, and taking digital pictures of the tach and GPS speedo at speed to record the results so that I could calculate the slip #'s. I live 3.5 hours away from OCM, and am therefore not able to sit in their shop or showroom.

Nice to hear from you......... and yes, I've talked to Ilmor as well as the world. It's a little bit of prop and little bit of set up at this point. I'm meeting with Herring on Friday to make a couple runs. I would have loved to have a 1" short to run as well. With Herrings low slip numbers, I think I can afford to come up a little bit and still get it where I need it.
Unfortunately, the lower I wanted to buy never came to fruition..

Another pleasant suprise tonight. Haven't heard from you guys in quite some time. I appreciate the offer and I will be contacting you. As a matter of fact, I've sent you an e-mail and would love to go over that when you have some time.
As mentioned in my post to Tim, I'll be in Havasu late next week doing some prop testing with Herring. I'll be at Windsor around 7:15am Friday the 12th. I would love for you or someone from Nordic to come down and and spend a little time with me to help figure out my set-up issues.
Once again, thanks for the offer, can't wait to see you guys next week. Very much looking forward to Nordics valued input in this matter.
