Motor has 160 (key on) hours with no problems. Do I need to pull the heads, or just pop on the Whipple and go?

What does the kit cost and what do you think a typical install would cost? I would love to try it myself because that is how you learn stuff!

What prop? 30?

LIOPA, I thought we were still waiting on that house to be done for the big changes to occur?

Chris,
You should be able to get a 2.3L kit for around $6500 or less would be my guess. Call Bob at Full Throttle Marine and he can hook you up with a good price.
Not sure what a typical shop install would run. I charge much less than a shop and take much longer. How does that work
Maybe someone has a standard install rate but I would figure around $2000. Honestly I'm not sure though; you'd have to check. Honestly, I think you could do it yourself with some phone help and all.
You wouldn't need to pull the heads unless you wanted to upgrade the head gaskets. Dustin feels the stock gaskets are sufficient for a stock install.
Maybe a 30, perhaps a labbed 30...good starting point tough.
Do you have steering?

LIOPA, Raylar doesn't make anything I'm aware of but there are plenty of great combos for that motor with the only draw back being the EFI system.
The other problem is that with the 502 being a much mechanically stronger motor than the 496, you get a much better bang for the $$$ with a supercharger.

Don't know if that made sense

Chris, If you have the mechanical ability to change the intake manifold and set timing then you can do the install. I'll get you a good price on the Whipple when you are ready. I would charge around $1500 to do that install, but I'm sure the West Coast labor rates are much higher than here. I would be glad to help you with any specifics, just give me a call.

As far as performance goes I would expect 73-74 on average. A couple more MPH under good conditions. My 28 has a 555 CI/625HP naturally aspirated engine and runs about that speed, with a best of 75. I am running an XR drive with the ITS box. I think that actually slows the boat some, as does the open bow. I've seen times when I couldn't get past 68 with a couple of people in the bow. That really kills this boat as I'm sure you know. It will run a little better in a few weeks, once my Whipple arrives..LOL..

Re: 28 Heat speed increase?

Bob, Dave,

Thanks. I need to see how I can work this into my budget ( the wife has the checkbook ) At least I can tell her it is MUCH less than a new boat!

Between myself, my dad and father in-law I think we could do it. My dad had a Blown Alcohol Hydro and my father in-law has rebuilt about a dozen classic cars from the frame up. I only know jet ski motors inside and out.

I would like to see mid 70's for sure!!!
