Okay, I decided to do a little "alcohol testing" this weekend as I've been getting killed by some pretty decent hangovers after only having four or five beers over the course of a night.
One would think it's simply the over consumption of ethyl alcohol that causes the hangovers and that switching from one 'drink' to another should have little effect. But I know from drinking just a couple of glasses of red wine there's obviously more to it than just the basic EA intake as red wine kills me the next day (and yes I know about the sulfates). Dark rums and heavy/dark beer seems to be a little tougher for me on day two as well. So this weekend I decided to switch from beer to vodka/mixed drinks. Let me tell you, other than getting way too drunk and it throwing me off my pace, I found the hangovers to be only a fraction as bad. I think I need to do more testing to confirm my hypothesis, but the initial results look quite promising! :drink: De hydration is usually the cause of hangovers IMO. However I usually drink dewars and I get a bit of a hangover, when In FL I stayed at a club med near Turbo Eddies place and they only had J&B I was plastered almost every weekend on vaca and I had NO HANGOVER at all.:evilb: unofturnately I cant find it here to keep up my TESTING of the threory.LOL |
Scot, you are now talkin in a language I can easily understand.....stick with Vodka!

I was up at 7 AM ready to go watch a lacrosse tournament and I felt great. The day before I had 6 vanilla vodka/cokes and I felt like garbage the next day. The week before that was the opposite: 5 vanilla vodka/cokes on thursday and I was fine on Friday. The next day(Friday) I had about 12 beers and 4 shots and I wanted to die the next day. I have tried to see if eating before drinking helps but so far all I know is that I get drunker faster if I start drinking before I eat. |
I've been sticking with vodka and club soda...or loaded coronas, I feel the lethal concoction of Vodka in the neck of the beer allows the inebriation to occur and the cut off to be much shorter...
This is merely a theory, but my hypothesis could in doubt change the hangover science... However the fact I find myself able to drink a ridiculous amount having nothing to do with any of the above stated... It's science haha Do you concur? hah |
Age seems to be factor for me too, the hangovers seem to be getting worse every year.
After the handover I had from Friday night, I really did try everything I could Sat. night to minimize the hangover, even though I knew I was going to be drinking heavily. I had a decent sized meal ahead of time (pretty normal for me), tried to stick to mixers with fairly low sugar content (mixed with Vitamin Water or cranberry/water) and had a couple of glasses of water throughout the night, plus a multi-vitamin and more water before bed. I normally do most of these things to minimize the hangover, but the beer to vodka change was a major departure. I was still a little drunk when I woke up 5 hours later, but I felt good enough to go to the gym and do legs and felt 95%+ by lunch time... Given the buzz I had, I would have been a basket case all day Sunday had I drank this much in beer. Overall I'm thinking of running this experiment for a couple more 'heavy' nights before I make the leap to vodka, but the initial results look promising. Looking forward to more testing... :drink: |
