Pulled this out of the other thread, thought it belonged here...

Frank, I think you might have had the right info, but possibly the wrong Mike. It sounds like "Clinton" Mike might have bought yet another boat. Hopefully he'll chime in with the details. :)

Hi Guys, Happy Easter.
It probably is me, I put some money down on a Sutphen Outrageous with HP500's and Bravos. Just waiting for the inspection. Hopefully will be in CT in a few weeks if everything goes well. It's a 3 owner, freshwater boat that has been kept inside. I talked with Ritchie and Christine who remembered the boat and said it was always well taken care of. Here are a few pictures.

4195 04-24-2011 04:20 PM

Sweet Sutphen! What size is that? Looks real clean good luck and congrats! Looking forward to seeing..... You Know Jeff will want you to drink the "koolaid" know.

ChristianGott 04-24-2011 04:34 PM

that's a great boat...i wish i had the coin for it a few years back..."go fish"!
best of luck, it's perfect.

sea2jet 04-24-2011 04:40 PM

It's 33 feet. ChIp at Competition Marine Center owned it for 7 years before selling it to the gentleman I am getting it from. He restored the first Tsunami that was featured in Hot Boat years ago. Jeff was considering this boat a few years ago but at that point the seller was firm on his price. So far, everyone who has seen the boat says it's a time capsule from 1988. Hopefully the inspection goes well.

Sick Stinger 04-24-2011 04:52 PM

That does hsow well, atleast in the pics. I looked into it a few times when in the OSO classys. Been for sale a little bit but depending what you paid should be a good deal in the state of the eco right now
Congrats Mike
-Mike

sea2jet 04-24-2011 05:44 PM

Thanks guys. I'm pretty excited about the boat. If all goes well, the Sutphen 21SSX will have a big brother

kreed 04-24-2011 06:30 PM

Sweet ride! Its a sleek lookin boat. Good luck with the sale and lookin forward to seeing her out in the sound!

It will take more than that little potato gun and a possessive Mrs. to keep Jeff away from a man that owns two Sutphens! :party-smiley-004:

Boat ramps...

Anyone ever use the ramp at Hayes Haven Marina (listed as Chester)? Kevin mentioned something about it so I just took a "trip" over there via Google Earth.

Seems to be about 9 miles past the bridge so it would take a little additional gas and time, but it's fresh water. Fresh water means it would be trailer friendly and no engine flushing to deal with, just quickly scrub the boat down and you're done (which could be done the next day). Plus it's private property, which means no po-po sitting there waiting for the beer cans to fall out of the boat when you're pulling out! :drink: If your just going to be hangin at the Cove, it's right around the corner too.

Anyone ever launch or keep their boats there? For those that have been there, how large of a boat can you launch there at their ramp?

If it's not a hassle to launch there, I'm wondering if it might make more sense to go their rather than the "public" OS ramp? Thoughts?

SS930 04-25-2011 02:19 PM

BTW, I called Hayes Haven to ask what they charge. $10 ramp, $10 parking, or $160 for the season... opens 5/15.

innerrage 04-25-2011 02:39 PM

i trailer mine every were and it stays in a shelter shed all year at my house, wounder if they would give us a good rate

i have seen a 38 donzi launch at hayes without a problem. we launch ours with ease. another advantage of hayes is no waiting to use the launch. its always open and ready for use.

JayFan 04-25-2011 03:02 PM

The only "issue" with that ramp is the road to get down to Hayes is VERY narrow. It's sort of a challange with just my 29'......a 38' would be fun! And that comes from me who drives trailers ALL the time....... it's really not that bad....just a pain in the butt if another car is coming at you.

I have seen the Po Po there as well......... but I've only been there a couple times. Justin could tell you better how often they are there.

kreed 04-25-2011 04:37 PM

I think Hayes Haven is a decent ramp considering its fresh water, alot less ramp traffic, and no currant to deal with. The turn you take to get the boat lined up with the ramp is alittle tight, but definately doable. The 10 mile boat ride in a boat you would own would take what, 10 minutes?:drink:

in all of my times there i have yet to see a cop. you are right though, the street leading to hayes is narrow due to brick walls on opposing sides. like i have stated, i have seen 38 top guns and 38 donzi's launching from there without any issue.

i think for the money it is a good deal. get peace of mind with the fresh water flush from the river, dont have to deal with currents or other boaters. plus there is a gas station on the way out. no separate stop is needed.

plus they throw a lot of bbq's, parties, a poker run, etc...everyone is friendly and inviting.

We have been at Hayes Haven since 1991. The owner is a great guy. Largest boat I've seen launch is a 42 Fountain and he seemed to have no problem. Not sure if you plan on getting gas at the marina or not but its the cheapest I have seen on the river. One thing to take into consideration is it takes about 45 minutes to get to the mouth of the river with the large essex and two old saybrook no wake zones. On the plus side getting a nice rinse of freshwater heading back is a great benefit.

innerrage 04-26-2011 05:50 AM

moses see wha you can do for a group rate or something i always launched at yankee or portland boat ramp and paid 20 , i would definetly launch at hayes.

SS930 04-26-2011 06:23 AM

I agree Justin, see if you can work some kind of CPBA deal... I'm interested in launching there this year. Seems like a lot of benefits, but I guess I'll have to see for myself. :)

SS930 04-26-2011 06:25 AM

BTW, where's Mr. Sutphen??? This place is too quiet w/o Jeff! :drink:

sea2jet 04-26-2011 06:29 AM

Consider me in for a season pass also. A group rate would be great if the owner would consider it. The marina doesn't sound like it's too far from the Chester Airport where the boat will be kept.

Mike, are you going to be keeping both Sutphens at the airport? You're right though, it is a short ride to Hayes Haven from there...

you guys are only interested in using the launch and parking correct? no one will be leaving there boats at the marina? just want to be sure of the request. i will talk to him tonight or tomorrow.

SS930 04-26-2011 08:54 AM

I would also be curious to see what his rates are for leaving the boat at the marina as well (if I had such a boat it would be 37' :D). Although I would probably be too concerned about theft to leave it... But I'm very much interested in launching there and it sounds like some of the other guys would be as well.
Thanks Justin!

Thanks!
