I would like to keep both boats in the hangar if it's not too much of a problem trailering to and from the ramp. That way they are stored inside. The hangar is 60X60 and I am trying to get the owner to install a water spigot. Two hangars down they have water so it shouldn't be a problem. There are drains in the floor that should work great for rinsing down the boats.

Hays Haven is a little closer to my house than OS, so I might be interested. The OS ramp is big though, and it's quick to get to the sound.

You were qouted $160 for a season pass. If I could do $100 or $120 would you be interested? Thats probably the best I could do. I will obviously have to confirm that with him. No promises.

I would want to check everything out first, but yes... If all checks out well, I'd be willing to do that.

Would you mind checking to see if it would be possible to rinse the boats down at the marina before trailering home? I guess the only thing to worry about would be the salt water spray on the decks and in the cockpit seeing that it's fresh water at the marina. The engines and the bottom of the hull would be all set.

the marina has the capability for cleaning but they may charge you and here is why...

the marina was almost hit with huge environmental fines because people were cleaning there boats at the marina and the run off was going directly back into the river. to avoid that the marina was forced to put in a concrete slab that catches the run off and puts it into the sewage system. as a result they will be trying to recoup some money that it costed to lay the concrete, etc. not sure the details yet.

I talked with a buddy last night that leaves his 40' cruiser at Brewers in Deep River. Two things came out of the conversation...

He mentioned his props have taken a beating going up and down the river due to the crap in the water. He said at any given point there are logs floating around and even so sitting in his slip at the moment! Like he mentioned, if they're their, it's hard to avoid them. And this coming from someone in a 40' cruiser, so you know he's not running at crazy speeds.

The other thing we talked about was doing a weekend trip over to Montauk Yacht Club. I guess he's been over there quite a few times and says it's awesome. Slip fee gets you full access to everything and claims the night life is great as well. We talked about running over there for Memorial Day weekend, or possibly the 4th of July. He's traveled the world and for him to highly recommend it, it must be a good time! Still thinking about it, but it could be a lot of fun if several of us made a weekend out of it... Might be too hot at night w/o AC for the 4th, so Memorial Day might be a better idea.

Let me know if you guys are interested as well.

Scot, just a couple comments here. This time of year, there is a lot of crap floating in the river, which eventually washes out to sea, or gets beached on the banks of the river....During June, July, and August, the river is very clean as far as logs and debris goes. I run the river ALOT( ask Frank:lolhit:), and have for years. During summer months, Ive never hit a thing and running at speed limit ;). Thats going from Middletown to Claudios and back. ...Spring and fall is when the river can be tough on a prop if your not paying attention, other than that, your good.

I like the Memorial Day idea and will get back to you on that!

I know all about the river debris this time of the year... that's the main reason I don't want to go out Sat. I've seen a lot of crap floating around the last week or two... even down by my house.

Regarding the MYC idea, we're really thinking about it. My buddy Brendan is real cool. Probably mid 40's, the Australian surfer type and is always a laugh. He produces commercials and travels all over the world doing so... likes to have a good time, so I trust him when he says Memorial Day and the 4th over there cant be missed. Says the showers, bikes, etc are all included so you dont need anything other than to be ready to party. :drink:

+1. Give the river a couple weeks and it's very clean overall. We do quite a bit of "river days" up to Haddam area etc and I've never hit anything either......although I probably just "F'd" myself for this year!!!

I too will run the Memorial Day idea by Jen and get back to ya....

Love Mauntauck but as soon as they find out what kind of boat you have they will be booked. They want cruisers or fishing boats they do not like loud go fast types. When I went last year we dock behind Liars saloon. I love it over there we just neeed to find a good small marina that we can get in good with.

SS930 04-27-2011 03:54 PM

I asked him about that Frank, he said no problem... he said there's always some big dollar loud go-fast boats over there and there's no issue. He did mention though that there's a lot of cash over there and expect to be in one of the smaller boats. He said his 40x14' cruiser is definitely on the smaller side.

Again, I'm open to suggestions, but I'd like to do a weekend trip or two this spring/fall while the night time temps are tolerable.

Sounds like four or five boats at this point... Myself, Brendan, Frank, possibly Kev and Jay. Anyone else interested?

Yes, I need 2 puke tanks. Oil comin up through the breathers and making a mess.....may switch props to spin in and see if I gain any speed. Also, Bret at Bblades, says he can make the boat run 85+ with a set of labbed 30P Maximus props! ........but they will cost 3400.00 :( , so 83 it is!

I went to Montauk last year for the 4th of July. Place was mobbed. Streets were packed, beach was mega-mobbed, lots going on. I had to leave before the fireworks show @night, but it was obvious that it would be a good show. People were heading to the beach to get a spot @ 4pm and the show didn't start til 9.
I was the only "go-fast" boat at the Marine Basin and my boat got treated like $hit there. They moved it while I wasn't there to a spot with rotted out pilings, and didn't move my bumpers. The boat was rubbing on the bare pilings and the dry wood shavings were all over the boat. I wasn't real happy with the place and will try my hardest to use any other marina over there. I'm sure with a group of boats they'll be better, and i've heard MYC is good.

Anyways it looks like you're trying to go for Memorial day weekend, but from experience I know the 4th won't let you down either. Unfortunately I have to work most of Mem. day weekend, so I wont be able to attend that one.

I might need to fab up some puke tanks as well as I've noticed a layer of oily mist under the hatch too. Figured I'd run it some to confirm that's whats going on and then go from there.

Any chance Bret might have a set of loaner props to see what you get out of them? A lot of money, but probably a decent bang for the buck if you want to go faster... especially if you can gain 3+mph out of them. I guess it's lways nice to have a set of spare props on hand as well.

sea2jet 05-02-2011 02:15 PM

The Sutphen Outrageous should have been delivered to Competition Marine Center today to have them inspect the boat and do a couple of things to it. I need to call them tomorrow to discuss the boat. I registered the trailer last week and FedEx'd the plate to them today. I have someone lined up to deliver the boat with a pickup date of the 9th. A few days later it should in Connecticut.

I was told both holidays are very busy and are not to be missed. I'd rather go for the fourth, but spending the night in a boat in July w/o AC sounds potentially pretty nasty. Although, if I cant make it for Memorial day, I'd still consider the 4th.
