How many boats can we get to shady river this weekend for a run? Did not get to run the Scarab yet this year but having a great time with the Cigarette. Got caught in the rain on Great Bay 2 weeks ago. Here is my wife and her brother being good sports.

im fairly certain that im going to shady river friday 1030am ish. one of my stops might be the tuckahoe inn. i have not really studied the water depth at there dock at low tide yet. but hopefully im there or somewhere in that area friday. i have a black hull ZT280 checkmate. For those who have never been there on facebook with a few pics , its on the great egg harbor river , maybe 10 miles or so south of mays landing on rt 559. who else remembers as a kid boating on that river and going past the nudest colony? my dad would keep going back and forth while mom yelled.

Baja555 09-29-2011 09:31 AM

I remember the nudist on the dock waving at the boats.. wow that was long ago.. around 1980 I think

jln 09-29-2011 11:27 AM

i think it was called sunshine or sunset beach, i was real young maybe 10 or so i just turned 50 this year so it was sometime ago. i try and go to shady river once a year. im in the pittsgove area so its about 40 mins from my casa to salem, or hargrove or shady river. of course the cheasapeake always wins out IMO. If your name is Bill i may have met you last year at the CCINN do you have a 28 skater with twin O/B

28cigarettess 09-29-2011 01:01 PM

When I was in my mid teens parents of a friend of mine had a shore house in seaview harbor. I couldn't count the number of times we jumped on the family ski boat which was a 1970 century inboard with a 440 chrysler and flew up that river and past the nudist colony. If memory serves me correctly most of the dock was enclosed by a brown picket fence with very close board spacing.:drink:

Bill. Where do you think the best ramp to launch the 38 is, down the shore and on the river.

Launched at Hargroves a couple of times last year and the current really makes it difficult to get the boat back on the trailer.

Baja555 09-29-2011 02:03 PM

thats tough.. you have a long boat there Scott..Shady river gets a strong current also.. I think you could get it in there, probably the limit though.. there's not alot of great ramps around. I hate dunking my trailer in salt so I either have it lifted in or use mays landing..

How's the river looking today? anyone going out today?

demag67 10-09-2011 11:15 AM

i went over at trenton, water was clean, couldn't see any debris. i was hoping to make it out but waiting for a set of props. they should be in monday so if its nice out next weekend gonna take a ride.

fireboatpilot 10-09-2011 03:33 PM

I think he's asking about Shady River? Anyway, we went out on Wednesday and the stbd engine is still misfiring. I have no time to figure it out so i guess I'm done. Taking it up to Bandit on Saturday.

demag67 10-09-2011 07:25 PM

sorry, when they ask how the river is and its under the deleware just assumed he meant the deleware river. hopefully you get your motor straightened out. if it is nice out this coming weekend gonna give mook a call maybe you can ride with him or me if you wanna come out.

Allicat38 10-09-2011 07:42 PM

The river was a mess today. Thought it wuld have been cleaner. between the cove to tacony bridge where i was. Sht all over the place and traffic with nowhere to go.

demag67 10-10-2011 05:54 AM

that sucks, its been a while since the rain. guess not long enough.

demag67 10-14-2011 01:46 PM

anybody going out on the river this weekend

demag67 10-16-2011 04:25 PM

i was amazed by the amount of go fasts out today on the river. was a nice day.

KEVLARKAT32 10-16-2011 05:18 PM

I was out last week end on a 28 Cigarette and it looked like a floating lumber yard ! I often ponder if all massive logs are ever a threat to tugs or fireboats

Larry

demag67 10-16-2011 05:52 PM

i put in at croydon and went up to bordentown and only one thing in the water. that was it. nice little chop. nice day out

We have an aluminum hull so I try not to take them head on although we only draw 2 1/2 feet and jet drives the hull is only 1/4" thick. With the old steel hull fireboat which is a tug hull we can run into concrete walls just protect the screws.

How did your new props work out? I'm takin mine up to Bandit tomorrow so I'm done for the season. Have a few minor things to take care of over the winter, mostly cosmetic, new gauges, finish the windshield and some trailer work.

demag67 10-18-2011 12:10 AM

i think im gonna give up. i want to send them to bblades but i don't think he is going to be able to help me. unless he knows magic that is the only thing i can think of that might work. i cant figure it out. just cant see spending the money on the props to go maybe 57 mph. the only thing i can think of is my motors are still to high. but i talked to sharkey and he had same boat with 20 in motors and his ran well. his motors were alot higher than mine. seen a couple of other boats and they were all 20 in motors on them also. might try a little more set back. if not i give up

Anybody going to be out on sunday?

Allicat38 10-21-2011 09:44 PM

Check out a little video of last weekend above the cove. Me and my friend were playing around with the go pro. My buddy has a cool little sea ray. Kev this is what we killed the battery on during the morning. Some of you may have seen us floating around. Its great boating with friends.
