Svl

We are having our SVL group conference call next week. If anyone racing or interested in racing in SVL in OSS please contact John K. or Wil Ros. We are finalizing our rules for the 08 season and would like to listen to any future SVL racers that have questions about our class. Your input may help SVL grow. You may already have a boat or interested in racing in SVL in the future. No ideas or questions are bad one's. It should be a good year with some new teams. Team Octane has a year under there belt and Team Screaming Eagles have sold there boat to another team. Brad Johnson has purchased the Doc's boat (Extreem) and should be a force this year! New teams with new talent makes for some great racing.

Just thinking out loud, What do you all think about a single file start with the lead boat as the last race, last place boat? For any boats that are faster or just plain better teams you now have to work your way threw the field of boats in front of you. It makes for more exciting racing and makes boats work for the pass. It should be better for the fans. I also like the short course format like we did in Destin for our class. More turns, less distance per lap and in the fans face for the whole race! I love turn one with deck to deck racing with 4-5 teams there at the same time. The problem is you just shot your nut in the first 1/4 lap of the race. I want that same intensity for most of the race, something has to change. For any of you that have had the privilege of racing you all know how hard it is to pass. My guess is if you start in the back you really have your work cut out to finish up front and if you do it would be one great show. Any other ideas besides the old figure eight course?

TYPHOON 12-31-2007 06:47 PM

What about re- grouping the fleet after 1/2 the race?
MD

TYPHOON 12-31-2007 06:56 PM

What about using some of our prize money as entry fee money? SVL should be the biggest class if we do this right. Least expensive class for spec class racing. Safest class. Super hard charging teams. Best bang for the buck. Most return on investment hands down. And biggest payout if we get the rest of the teams in SVL to run. Its time to get this thing cranked up!!!!!

What are the Odds of getting at least 10 of you guys at 3-4 races together? Is it something we should try and talk about? maybe we cant make all the races together but shouldnt we try and make 3-4 really great races together. Pick which ones you could make and lets talk next week on a conference call!

Brad Johnson 12-31-2007 10:40 PM

Good thinkin Randy!! What about all the SVL boats running in all the different clubs with the same rules & all points being able to transfer? The start your suggesting would be a great visual for the fans....

TYPHOON 01-01-2008 10:01 AM

There are only a few boats that dont fit the OSS rules and If they really wanted to race in a spec OSS class they would change there set up. The only difference in rules was the motor and OSS SVL grandfathered in the boats that had them last year and they still didnt race. Maybe they can be grandfathered in again. Its worth talking about on the conference call if thats what the registered teams want. I personally like the idea of one motor that can be tecked really easily and sealed at the factory. The Vortec is a great motor but just adds another variable I dont want to test. I have been fighting for one gear ratio as well but have not been successful yet.

TYPHOON 01-01-2008 06:25 PM

What is Bob Mazakowski up too? Bob are you out there? Do you want in this year?
MD

vinny kostelac 01-02-2008 08:33 AM

1. I think two by two starts with the starting grid the reverse order of the national points standings, keeps points race tight and makes for some fun racing not make or break it at turn one.
2. If approved we will work out a formula to reduce or eliminate entry fees, smaller prize purse but all can race for less or free.

TYPHOON 01-07-2008 03:56 PM

Last chance. Tonight is the call if you are interested please pm Kostalac.

Pete B 01-08-2008 01:21 PM

Well MD how did the phone conference go??

anything you can share with the rest of us??

TYPHOON 01-08-2008 04:23 PM

It went great! Everyone is excited about the new year and we have some new ideas for our class. Rules have not changed at all. Some of the test things we did last year were reviewed and voted on by all.
1) Bob Mazakowsi Home Town SVL Grandfathered in one more year with his Vortec with special criteria that must be met
2) The NXT drive was found to be a bullet proof drive, but no one wants to convert to it and it will not be allowed for the 08 season
3) Our class would like to be a test class with 2x2 grid pattern starts instead of a line start
4) No ENTRY FEE's if possible and less purse to winners
5) Possibleble minor weight adjustments to help some older boats.
6) Working on a class sponsor for SVL
Those were the highlights of the call and it was really good talking to some new teams to OSS and some potential new teams on the line. It looks like a great year for SVL. SVL racers ROCK. We all had our opinions heard and together we made the right choices for our class. Our destiny is in our own hands and I am honored to be involved with such passionate racers.
MD

Ryan Beckley 01-08-2008 04:31 PM

Can you give us a list of teams to run OSS this season , who were on the call.

TYPHOON 01-08-2008 05:53 PM

There were 9 teams on the call. Cooper couldnt make it or there would have been 10 teams. Pretty much all the SVL legal boats want to race this year together. Some will race in other Organizations as well but all want the challange of racing in a spec class. The no entry fee was a big hit for some of the less funded teams that made it hard in the past.
MD

TYPHOON 01-10-2008 05:49 PM

2 More teams have called with intent to race in SVL with us this week alone. The word is out on this great class. Its time to take this class to new hights.
MD

Pete B 01-10-2008 06:15 PM

Good job Randy! there is no reason that SVL should not be at the top of serious Spec racing. to get the flag all teams will have to earn it not buy it!!

TYPHOON 01-10-2008 06:42 PM

Pete, Have you been drinking? Im bad but thats the worst 2 sentences I have ever read.:D
MD

Pete B 01-10-2008 07:12 PM

no, just using a laptop and not payiing attention.

I would guess there have been a few worse, just not the norm from me I guess.

TYPHOON 02-05-2008 07:37 PM

Latest news flash. The NXT drive has been given one more year to run with the SVL teams but will not be legal at the worlds. The 2 other new teams on the call are in. One has already purchased Corys old Phantom and the other team is picking up there boat this week. Welcome aboard everyone.:evilb:
MD

TYPHOON 02-05-2008 07:41 PM

Does anyone have the team's number that bought Screaming Eagle? Would like to see if they want to share some of the fun with the new teams as well. Half the fleet might be rookies.

YOU MIGHT HAVE A CHANCE NOW RANDY!! :party-smiley-004:

SpecialFX 02-07-2008 09:32 AM

SVL is looking like a very competitive class for 2008. Maybe I 'll install a 525/bravo in my Extreme and come join the fun.

Aqua Banshee 02-11-2008 09:33 AM

We finally picked up our new SVL this weekend. Drove 1600 miles, 2 hours of sleep, 400 miles in 4 wheel driving thru snow storms on side roads boat in tow, 40 mph winds on the way back. got home slept 4 hours and off to the lake. We have a lot to learn but this thing is going to be fun.

Ryan Beckley 02-11-2008 10:54 AM

Aqua Banshee......which boat did you buy?

Aqua Banshee 02-11-2008 11:04 AM

liquid assets or Corys old boat. 05 phantom

DriverofDonzi 02-11-2008 11:37 AM

what is your new team name?

Ryan Beckley 02-11-2008 12:23 PM

Good Luck with it. I did the original graphics on Cory's boat. Are you gonna be in Biloxi with it? Let me know if you need any graphics for it.

Aqua Banshee 02-11-2008 12:25 PM

Unknown at this time. always looking for sponsors

Aqua Banshee 02-12-2008 08:43 AM

We are going to do our best to make Biloxi. The boat is a little on the slow side right now. I am not sure if will have the time and money to do what I need before than. I might have just work with what I have.

BlakeandBrock 02-12-2008 08:55 AM

Congrats Aqua Banshee... Look forward to seeing you at the races.

You SVL guys are CRAZY!

Larry D 02-12-2008 03:59 PM

Thanks everyone. That is why we want to run in SVL is all great people involved.

We got to run a little on Sunday and ran out prop. I got a 30 5 blade to try soon as it warms up some. with the 29" I was at 82mph hitting the rev limiter and no trim. I am starting to question what gears are in it?

Loose is fast just the way I like things.

I don't know if I will need to, or have time to move, and raise the motor back in the boat.

fantastixvoyage 02-12-2008 04:23 PM

Aqua - best of luck to you! I had written that boat off due to the history then just last night I heard more about and put it back on the list. Of course only to find out that its sold! :grinser010: Should be a great boat for you when you get it sorted out.

Back to the hunt....:D

Oh and by the way that Skater cult's got nothin' the phantom cult!!! i swear half you guys can rattle off the history of each boat w/o blinking!!! LOL

Ryan Beckley 02-12-2008 04:30 PM

This boat has proven fast on occasion.....it's got a flag or two and has run in the 90's on several occasions. I know it took 3rd in Toronto a couple of years ago in a big class. ALL these boats are fast if you got the balls to hang it out there.....

TYPHOON 02-12-2008 05:18 PM

Im thinking you have the 1:65 gears in it if you are doing 82 with a 29 pitch. The quickest way to see what gears you have is to put your motor at top dead center on the harmonic balance and with a breaker bar rotate the motor one complete revolution while someone else is watching the prop turn. It should turn 1 1/2 times for a 1:50 ratio. Good luck.
MD

Larry D 02-12-2008 07:00 PM

I am pretty sure cory ran 1.65 and actually the gear ratio is a reduction so for a 1.50 gear one revolution of crankshaft would be a 240 degree propshaft rotation, and a 1.65 would be a 218 degree prop rotation ( I have used a camshaft degree wheel mounted on propshaft for this) . conversely you could ( since the harmonic balancer is degreed) you could rotate engine in gear of course till propshaft makes one complete rev if engine turns one and half times ( top dead center to tdc than 180) it is a 1.50 , if goes to 218 on balancer it is a 1.65
Larry

Larry D 02-12-2008 07:04 PM

just for ref at the rev limit with the 29 and 1.65 you are in the 10% slip range
