I don't want to step on anybodys toes overthere....
If Steve C or anyone form over there who's involved wants to post pics...I'm sure they will, but you will probably not see any for a bit.....but even in the 150 Class...its not just for beginners.... The 150 CLass is almost like our class 6 with a lot less HP...but still running some good speeds....and in big water.... The guys I talked to said the boats in the 225 Class handle better but they run them on the edge....if you lift...someone is there to pass you....it sounds like they got something there... There Vee in the 225 class is 26 feet... But a 17 foot cat or a 19 foot cat I don't think will get it done.. you will see that the magic number will be bigger then a 20 foot cat.... I'm not saying go buy everything overseas.... I'm saying can someone here build a 25 to 27 foot Vee with a 225 and run 70 mph and make it cost effective....or a 25 foot Cat and still be cheap.... Also....like in the Stock Class... if something is already working and in place and it could lead you into a Series that would be World Wide for a championship with who knows 30+ boats total....with a munufacture backing it....and it costs you under 50k to race...it makes you think....plus with Steve Curtis now racing over here in the States also.....the comunication between both here and there are already made.... |
would someone please just call Curtis and get a price on a bare hull!!!!! Also are there any used boats over there for sale? At what cost? US dollars or Euro dollars?
Does anyone want to take the lead on this project? MD |

Herb Intimidator boats PS guys has anyone actually shown any interest besides us? (who already race larger boats ) |
That class you guys are talking about was here in the early mid nineties it was called factory class. Single 2.4 and 2.5 on 21 foot boats and up. There were Superboats, Activators, Challenges ect. For what ever reason it went away. There have been a number of strong outboard classes. Gone. Why is there such a strong tendency to keep adding classes?
History keeps repeating itself. Jim |

When I looked at putting a rib series together 2 years ago....it was not to take boats from other class's....it was to bring in a class where you could buy a boat cheap and race....I had 6 teams that were in...and the profits would be passed down to the 6 teams for making the first investment as the class grew....the idea was to race on Saturday on half of the course so the fans could see all the racing and then the guys could race there regular boats on Sunday....
It was not to take from Sundays race....just something for the fans to see on Saturday....its not like there are temas out there that can't afford a 30k rib....and you could use it anytime for play....plus it gave guys who did not have 50k + to start a team get involved..... plus you could beat these ribs up and are almost impossible to flip....the speeds we had set up were right at 60 mph.... |
Hey Gino,
You guys were smokin in Key West! Last summer we had about 20 boats interested in a single outboard class, they griped the equipment fee was too much, paying a $100 a man for the crew to join the OPA was too much, well I spoke to Smitty about it and he said tell them the can race for free. I posted it on a couple of sites where guys who run these boats congregate, Tim Sharkey helped, JC (Jeff) helped and in the end none of them showed, all they did was knock the sites and our racers. Bottom line is, we all figure out ways to race and support our sport these guys are afraid to race. You guys are my friends and I'm not raining on the parade, I just want you guys to know that we have tried to make this class happen. On the positive side, the Jersey Skiffs and garvies that raced in Chattanooga are coming to Patchogue and a few of our sites that work for them, they were awesome! and we are getting the permits for a saturday race for them. You guys show a true love of boat racing and are always looking to make it better. Thanks Louie PS One boat did show, Intimidator came and kicked butt. |
I don't think anyone is trying to get the SOB guys out, were looking for a whole new spec class of racing like the Honda Series, the two largest threads lately have been this thread mostly concerning the Honda Series and another thread of a revamped F1 class, bottom line, I think a lot of guys would like some kind of spec class and are exploring to see if there are any opportunities rather it be the Honda Series or something else based on that model.
