class 7 can you run a open bow,bayliner,maxum etc ,or is thier only certain boats,thank you

None of those would be competitive Brian, I doubt they are built well enough to take offshore abuse either.
Your best bet is a 21 Challenger/Superboat or one of the many copies. They can be had pretty much race ready for 5 grand buddy

Johnny is right! There is a 21 Hustler with a 225 on the Central Jersey Craigslist for $7,000.
Another 21 Hustler with a 200 (that will race in class7) was just purchased in Florida for under 5,000.
This is why this is entry level-its affordable! I also now of a 22 Velocity that may be available soon. Keep checking craigslist or check here-dont ruin your pleasure boat. Get a friend and split the cost.

a 250 hp motor would be a lot cheaper than shcnazzy new 300........

A box stock 200 will be plenty competitve set up well on one of these boats. Balance will be key, and its a lot harder to get with a 3.0 hangin off the back. I say box stock....solid mounts will be necessary.
