We will borrow a used SX pump from Johnny to see if it will work, it do have some strange noise coming from it but it will definately do for some testing.
Will do this test someday during this week.
Do I have to connect a return hose to the fuel pres regulator when testing? Or is that only important in the long term?

Connected the SX pump today and took a testride...
It works awesome!!! FINALLY!!!
Just need to go get a fuel pressure regulator with a return, connect it and finetune the pressure to finish it up.
85mph on completely flat water in 1/3mile from cruising cannot be too bad.

Went to our first race last weekend! Awesome! 
But about halfway through the engine coupler "exploded" leaving rubber peices all over the engine compartment...
We had an awesome day, it was a lake race but with a a minimum of 1ft chop and up to 3-4ft at the most windy part of the track.
This race was an "average speed" race, i.e you set up your own average speed and try to get as close as possible to. We set up 72mph on that 60mile track. That way you can race against boats in an honest way when there is not too many similar ones starting. Next year sounds very promising to get a bunch more boats to race against. Cant really say the drive shaft is centered any longer - it rotates within a diameter of 1-1/2 inches so the bearing is long gone as well.
This is the second coupler this season.
The engine is not 100% lined to the transom assy so that might be the thing. Will drill out the mounting holes in the stringer to get the engine a bit lower when mounting the next coupler.
Is there any other coupler than the HD one that works better??? It can't have anything to do with how I drive so it has to be something else... The lining might be one - alot more HP than before and the lining a bit off might have been it.
What do you high HP guys use?

Long time, no update...
I ended up getting the steel long snout coupler. But also discovered that the inner transom plate got damaged when the coupler went. So I just mounted a new IMCO HD-transom plate.
I'm hoping for some LATE fall runs, but I still have at least 2 months of work to get the 28 ready. Ordered a new sit-down interior from PPI that has been sitting in port in Ft-Lauderdale for quite some time but just got delivery status - aug 18th.
All the oils are drained and will use Royal Purple ATF in the trim's and RP Steering in the steering and RP 20W50 in the motor.
The new drive from Mr. Gadgets has still not been mounted but that is plug and play since the oil pump, cooler, filter and all hoses are mounted. I had to make some adjustments to the wingplate since it wouldn't fit the new swept upper, but no biggie - just a couple hours of grinding.
The leakdownresults after 20-25hours:
1: 1.0%
2: 2.0%
3: 1.3%
4: 6.0%
5: 1.0%
6: 2.5%
7: 3.2%
8: 6.0%
I will check #4 and 8 when I have started the engine since the leakdown should be lower than 6%.
