Tex, you should have bought the SBC boat... at least that had a solid powertrain. coulda dumped 20 into that and been goin real nice.
don't get hung up on paint... that's a much easier fix than dying engines.

That one at shogren has too much horsepower, which to me is also too much maintenance. The interior also has only one purpose - speed. I go boating with the whole family and a cabin is a must. All I care about is reliable 65+mph with as little as maintenance as possible. When I read Griffs laundry list of upgrades and engine work all I saw was $$$$$ adding up for a single high horsepower motor. I'm getting the boat for $45K I figure new engines for $15,000 and I got a 1999 Pantera with brand new engines of choice for $60,000 which is still the best deal I see right now. I would buy one of the ones listed at $70K but I don't have that kind of cheese and am stuck at $45K.

This is a boat I will have (or atleast plan to have) for 15-20years. Possibly the last one ever as my search for the perfect boat that fits my needs ends with the 28 Pantera..... well I may have to upgrade to a 32 if they ever come out with one. So I don't mind spending money on it.

Thanks alot guys - I will see how she checks out tomorrow afternoon and give you guys an updated.

Tex, we should talk, I'm getting motivated, you're close, the boat is primo and investing a little more even if it means a loan can be a good move vs buying a moneypit. I think you want to take your family boating, not wrenching

Is there any particular reason you're stuck on the Pantera?

There is a ton of stuff out there for sale, and would hate to settle on something you'll have to dump money into. If you do a search either on here or in the boattrader, you'll find a bunch of stuff for sale at good prices. Velocity's, Fountain's Donzi's etc.

Either way, good luck with your decision.

Realize that my list of engine work was the only time the engine was ever apart. It was done at 340hrs. It had 475hrs when sold to DudeSweet and the only thing done since the top end overhaul was normal maintanance.

I did not mean that in a bad way Griff - and am sorry if it came out that way.

Why would I want to buy a pantera - its one of the biggest 28 ft boats and it is the best rough water 28ft boat made. I love the classic lines and the Jo-Pantera is just a phone call away. I was sold on the 29 fountain until I found out it is not so good in the rough especially when compared to a pantera. I have searched boats religously now for 4 years now and this is the best 28ft boat you can buy IMO. I know whats on the market, and am glad I can stop looking......well I'll find out tomorrow if I can stop looking.

Anybody else have a 28 pantera - EVERYTHING IS FOR SALE right griff. Most I could do is $47K. Twins with stock reliable horsepower is ideal, but would consider a single stock with a 500hp.

Try to get the boat for 40-42, and plan 5-10 for repairs, otherwise pass. If all ya can spend is 47, ya gotta remember fuel, and maintenance on twins.
