100 MPH Club

Ok I'm sure there's been other threads about it before but who has been 100mph in a 24 Pantera ?? What to expect ??

Griff 09-01-2010 01:48 AM

I have not and would not even think about going that fast in one. A few people have 28's going almost that fast and they have posted that mid 90's is getting loose.

Mange 09-01-2010 06:21 AM

I believe the 24 "Plum loco" is/was a +100mph boat :)

JO would know for sure.

Jo told me he did over a 100 in a 24 but I don't know what boat it was !

ziemer 09-01-2010 08:47 PM

Many different types of boats much better suited for that kinda speed. :lolhit: :evilb:

When I need to go that fast, I hop in the Allison. :drink:

I know Jeff Cropper's brother had a 24SB that ran over 100.
When i had Ziemers boat, i thought 75 was moving pretty good. Over 85 would be a serious handful.

I did 85 with less hp , had to trim to the max and made it loose . Now gonna have 800hp and I'm gonna try and keep the nose down with some tab . There will be video !

paul buckner 09-02-2010 12:05 PM

go for it

Not saying I wouldn't drive it, just wouldn't be at the top of my list. :evilb: Plus, I'm good with my easy to maintain stock Bravo and mild big block power. ;)

75-78 in mine is nothing to drive, but you're right, it's gotta be real loose to get there, unless there's a good 1-2 ft chop. However, it's stable with virtually no tendency to walk at those speeds. I only have the little 150 K-planes too, which are all the way up anyway at speed.

Big difference between my Allison and my Pantera, and I use them in two completely different manners. 0-100 in the Allison is almost instant too, which is an awesome rush.

Good luck though in your endeavor. :drink:

I'm guessing around 600-625hp to get 85mph? Not sure 800hp will give you 100mph but probably damn close! I think if you didn't have to hang the boat out by trimming for every last mph then 100 could be done safely in the right conditions. It's when you trim out for that last 2 or 3 mph when chit can get scary real quick!

scarabman 09-03-2010 01:38 PM

I believe with the right set-up 100 is attainable with 800 hp. I was getting into the low 90s with what is now Onesick's 24 w/ significantly less than that. That was spinning a 29 Mirage around 5500 if I recall right. It has been awhile. And yes, you want to run a touch of negative tab at those speeds.

565HP before , 509 Blower set up this time turning 6500rpm . Several Props to chose from so I'm gonna start with a BBlades special .

MIAMIBOYZ 09-04-2010 06:55 PM

If you think a 100 mph is something cool, think about it twice and three times. I did 102 in the Mig28 and it got very loose without any trim, I had plenty of ponies to continue. However, it was not fun playing with the wheel to get her under control. Been there done that ! take it for what is worth.....

Awesome....push it to the limit....hope you have a beefy bravo and not stock

Elite Marine 09-21-2010 05:18 PM

I hit 91 with about 648 HP in my old 24 that Scarabman pointed out. I still have that 29P Mirage. Its not a plus and it helps these 24 wake up with the right HP.

Its a handful and the boat has 28 Kplanes. Except Scarabman put them on backwards!! :)

LMAO...I talked to him about that and he actually had good logic behind it!

What I have noticed with the 24 is there is a "safe" spot which is very slight negative tab. You can run the boat through anything and it is very predictable. No launching of the bow at all and rock solid. But it scrubs about 2-3 mph off all out top-speed. It only takes a small bump of raising the tabs to make the boat handle totally different.

Just my $.02

OCCJoe 09-22-2010 06:18 PM

I took my tabs off when I did 85 , scary , scary , scary ! Lost 4mph just with tabs back on but all the way up . Might be the 30" of drag ! LOL !

Holy chit you got a big set!

OCCJoe 09-22-2010 08:48 PM

I can't preach about my Pantera being able to handle anything you can through at it and not be willing to hang it out there myself .

I was sitting at the race next to a 34 fountain with triples this past weekend and was telling him that my 24 would go anywhere his 34 would go but he didn't want to put his money where his mouth was !
put up or shut up !!!

TOASTY 09-23-2010 12:52 PM

So you told an owner with a 34 with 3 motors that your boat could go anywhere the 34 could go...? i believe this, it might go there 2 hours after and bang your brains around but sure, i bet you could...just seems a little odd.

Be safe and use good judgement getting to 100 i am sure its possible.

I wouldn't think a 34 center console with three 250 mercs could do more then 75-80 , is this not correct ?

TOASTY 09-24-2010 06:39 AM

not sure, but the extra 10 feet will help, no matter how fast you decide the boat goes, a longer boat will run better in rough seas, and you did state that you could go anywhere a 34 could go...so math suggests a 24 in 6-8 footers will most likely be slower then a 34 in 6-8 footers, it will run anywhere but just get there a little after...

I have seen and been on 38 senter consoles with 3 motors to 90. I have been on 23 center consoles with 2 motors do well into the 80s...its all relative.
good luck

Stormrider 09-24-2010 10:39 AM

Yes... it's all relative.

Apparently you dont know occjoe it doesnt matter how big the seas are we only touch every third wave any way, i think the last storm we had he was getting more air then the jet skis, and you would never know you were out the water ( **** i think i was behind him on a wakeboard lol:coolcowboy:

100mph is not far fetched in a 24' boat this donzi is 100+ mph boat and its 22'

you all are missing the point....i am not doubting that the boat will go over big seas and perform well. Just a boat that is 34 feet will do in more comfort. Get over your egos and use science. A boat that gets more air isnt the faster boat. A boat that is in the water i.e props moving the boat is faster then the airborne boat...crapin freaks why do i even try

Yup! Jo used to bug me about that every time I talked to him. Function over conventionality:drink:
