Deep pockets are needed no doubt!!! The only advertising is the ones who stop by and let the rest of the world know. Too bad they dont see it!! I think my next one is a Donzi or a fountain, - sorry, at least their around.

If and when PQ comes back they will have to figure out how to break out of the upper Midwest where their bread and butter sales were back in their heyday. Not a lot of people with a lot of disposable income in that area right now. Maybe some boats will show up at the upcoming shows in late '08 early '09.

If they are going to have any boats show up at this winter's shows, somebody visiting the factory will need to start smelling some resin soon. |

I agree - they might get some interest in Canada due to the value of the $ right now. I doubt they can count on anything over seas. So they need to work on getting some dealers in Florida. Starting back up will be tough.

I got a tour at the factory, they are building boats and I believe
they will give alot of manufactures a run for their money. |
Anything completed yet?? Hows the look the same or did they change things up?

That's a bunch of BS. What are they, to good to sell us boats in the USA now? Why the heck would they first try to sell boats to overseas customers when they used to have a loyal base of customers right in their own backyard? Even if that was true why not update your website site and start marketing boats in the USA at the same time you are taking all these overseas orders. Yeah, other countries might have a stronger economy right now but I can't believe that's all they are focused on. I realize they need to focus beyond Michigan and the Midwest but come on and get real! If PQ only wants international customers that's fine, just let us all know so we can all move on and start talking up another boat manufacturer. |

From every other post out here they were working their molds to implement improvements. Seems like they went from that status to selling lots of boats kind of fast. Not trying to cause a big issue here, but just trying to figure out what the status really is. I'm sure they are trying to drum up over seas interest, but there is a big difference between interest and boats complete, delivered and paid for. Sure seems like we would have seen some other information on this if they were actually delivering boats. |
My guess is they have yet to produce a complete product to date. If they had you'd be an absolute fool not to have informed one of the leading magazines to get the hype going. And beside if things were getting back to normal that would be fairly big news in the Holland and Grand Rapids area. There would have been a splash in the papers. Now maybe there was as I'm south of there but I would think a member of OSO would have read it and posted it . I wish them the best, just for the life of me haven't figured out how they think this all silence is good for the company. A bone every once in a while would be a good thing.

Powerquest340, its not so much that I (maybe We) don't believe you, We all have been waiting for something. But Nothing. But if you notice this thread started a few years ago. These guys have been waiting a long time. I've only been following it for the last year? as I 'm still new here. Maybe the new owner had been banned by OSO and he's snubbin us :party-smiley-004: For me it's really a moot point as I'll never be able to buy a new one anyway. I just can't bring myself to do it. Options A. new 340-$200K B. used 340 '02 w/250hrs for under $100k C. new 280 or 300 for under $100k I'll do option B, But then, I have been looking at cigarettes quite a bit, already:eek: Ya know, it just came to me. some body call and get a quote on a new 380. tell em you're interested and just want to know if PQ should/could be on your list of possible choices. See what they say. What's the current lead time for one. If they're building boats, how does one go about getting one? However I would like to send mine back to the factory to shorten the bow Rail to just ahead of the wind shield. |
ShawnD Just keep in mind that we get a fair amount of used PQ inventory from those people moving up and buying new.
But I'm right there with you. Hard to justify the cost of new when there's simply so many good deals on used. Specially now days. |
I agree, we need the feedstock for the used market.
I hope it did not sound like I don't care if they get it going, cuz I really do want them to succeed. for themselves, the boating industry, the community, & for Michigan, I think PowerQuest brought a balance to the industry of performance & pleasure. |
They aren't in full production. You can choose not to believe what I say, but I have talked alot with the new owner and toured the factory (2 weeks ago). They are not advertising, but are having people overseas ask them to build boats. That said, they are not building very many. They arent going into production yet, because they are working on some new designs. They don't want to start producing boats until they have the new models perfected. I Can't blame them.
|
Also, he said that they are waiting because they are prepping to go into full production. The old owners left the business in quite a mess.

In other words they are not producing boats yet - and if they are not producting boats - they aren't selling boats, over seas or anywhere else. |

I'm trying to be a believer!!!! |
I live 3/4 of a mile from the plant and drive by a lot. There were a couple partially built when they got the business. Last I talked to Bob, those were the only couple he mentioned letting out the doors. They installed a new rub-rail on a Formula for a friend of mine not that long ago and did an awesome job of it too!

PQ Factory
I had the opportunity to get a factory tour and have lunch with Phil Hall and Matt Seyffert this past Saturday. I think people will be blown away when PQ relaunches. I know I was. They are not currently building any production boats but rather improving the current boat's construction. If you have an opportunity to get to the factory and see for yourself then take it. Phil and Matt spent over five hours with me and another friend and answered every question we asked as well as what they were doing and why.
Some highlights: 1. Increased strength 40% while reducing weight 35%. 2. Hull AND deck are vacuum bagged. PQ is the only boat company to vacuum bag the deck, according to Phil anyone else who says they are also vacuum bagging the deck isn't on the up-and-up. 3. They are producing a 38 for the February 2009 Powerboat performance trials. The boat will have a metallic orange theme. It looks pretty cool. 4. PQ holds a patent on a new type of triaxial glass. Increased strength while reducing weight. 5. The previously built PQ boats were well built as you can attest but these new models will be much stronger. Phil's attention to detail like the balsa coring tabbing is first class. 6. He is an electrical engineer so the wiring will no longer look like a bird's nest and will have three main busses. 7. Wood has been removed from the boat and replaced with fiberglass. 8. The windshield has been improved in looks and performance (it looks more substantial). 9. The vacuflush system is being replaced with a better system, I can't recall the name but it uses a bladder system like how tow boats use for wakeboarding. 10. PQ will be making every model it previously produced, from 22' to 38'. All the improvements I saw on the 38' will be across the board, hull, deck, hardware etc. I will not be able to answer all of your questions but I can tell you they encourage you to call and/ or visit them and provide your input. Phil says he is averaging 200,000 hits a month on the website and acknowledges that it is not up to date. It will be updated when he gets into production. It looks like that may happen next year. He is encouraged by the support and the following. He also stated that if PQ was still producing boats at the time he acquired the company he would have continued producing the boats and all the work he is currently doing on the improvements would have been going on in the background. Since PQ was not producing boats he felt this was an opportunity to improve on them before relaunching the company. Like I said the boat I saw being built for February will be a knockout and will impress. |

Sure, this is all great news, but...... If I were bulding a completely redesigned "better" boat, why not change the name of the company and have a new launch for your product, rather than have people say (I thought that company went out of business years ago). Just my .02 and I am a very satisfied "old" PQ owner.

You would have to ask Phil. My guess is because the brand is still recognizable.
No boats for any boat show next year that I'm aware of, only the boat for the Powerboat performance trials. |
Good News, but I think 200,000 hits a month is BS, I think the counter is stuck or something.

Good point........ They sure have not had any good PR with the public....let alone their existing and/or past customers |
Yeah...like they care about anybody!!
it would be wise of them to spend some time updating their website with some sort of blob that they are "restucturing" or something......but all they give is nothing. |
.....and you know they are reading this........hello, hello, is this thing on........"the sound of crickets"
|
At the bare minimum you would think they could get the correct boat descriptions under the models. Not sure it takes and $$ to do that just a little time which if your not building any boats you should have plenty of ??? I just don't get it?
|
There isn't much going on there based on the number of cars in the parking lot. There are 3 or 4 every time I go by.
Their approach is certainly an interesting one to launching a newer, better, more expensive PQ... |
Given the market - not sure why anyone would want to re-open or introduce anything new. I can't believe any boat dealers are looking to carry new lines or inventory at this point.
IMO the best thing the new owners can do is be patient and use this time to re-work molds and get the factory in order. I sure wouldn't be wanting to put an employee payroll and inventory of materials on in this economy. |
So Powerquest spare us all the grief and put up a sign that says "Closed for Good" and the rest of us can carry on with our lives and look at other units without the "well I hope some day" anxiety involved in the waiting......

My 2 bits is on either a 2010 or 2011 model. I wouldn't bet on a 2009 model. Banking and lending industry needs to fix itself first. |
I dont know guys, but I ordered parts from PQ a couple of times this summer, never a problem,Robert has always been great to deal with,I ordered some parts Friday and UPS dropped it off today,I wish I could say the same about the old PQ.
|
What kind of parts did you order??
|
What number did you call? I have been trying to call the factory for some time and nobody answers. I have left messages on their voicemail but they have never called me back.

All I can say its never been a problem,I hate to compare them to anybody but its like calling Sunsation, you get to talk to someone that knows the product and not a phone/secretary,last month I was having some electrical issues with the boat,I called the factory and spoke with Bob,1/2 hour later Rick called from the factory spend over a hour on the phone with me,faxed me all the wireing schematics, and called me the next day to answer a couple of more questions, and my boat is a 2000. I dont know too many other boat manufactures that do that. |
