also unlike the 260 the step boats dont need that much trim,,once on plane just trim up a little at a time until you find the sweet spot.

Thanx, I going to do a bunch of test and evaluations on all the settings ect... I've read plenty of horror stories about guys tucking the drive in and having a step catch and running into trouble. It's just going to be a different feel and handle differently. My wife loves it, until she gets in it with no windshield! So I might do a wind screen.

I keep ya updated.

Got out of work late, got the impeller housing kit swapped out, and then went to swap out the batteries and realized I purchased the wrong size. The bilge is HUGE!! Definitely can stick twins in there. I was sitting down next to the engine while doing the impeller, it's was still a PIA. So tomorrow, I'll swap the batteries, clean it up some, and take her out. Regardless of the 28mph consistent wind we are going to have. Actually I want to see how she handles the slop. With wind that strong there will be plenty of 2-3' to test. Just not looking forward to getting her back on the trailer with that wind with not being really sure how she handles. He wasn't BS'ing about not a scratch on the entire hull, I found two, about 1/8" each.

Next is to send off the CMI headers for pressure testing. The boat is really in mint condition, unreal.

Gives you that warm happy fuzzy feeling all over having a better than new boat doesn't it!!
Congrats once again!
PS: Can you keep us updated on the CMI venture....cost, necessary repairs, turn around time, etc??
Would be good info for all.
Thanks,

Ok, today started off great, went and swapped out the batteries, then went by my local marine mechanic's shop and showed him my 29' Nuera. He couldn't believe what great condition it was in. He then caught a small chip on the bottom of one of the steps and told me to be careful when loading the boat on the trailer due to the steps. He stated that I would want the trailer in deeper than usual with my PQ.**Keep this in mind for later**.

Today was windy, 25-30 mph maintained winds on the lake all day, I was hesitant to the put the boat in the water solely because of loading it in wind. But of course I said screw it, and launched. Waves were 2-3' with an occasional 3.5-4' in he main body of the lake. The boat is SO different than my PQ. Much lower to the water, my PQ was "very" bow sensitive, drop the drive a lil bit and the bow dips dramatically, same with the tabs. With the Nuera I found it "insensitive", it wouldn't move much no matter what I did, or at least that was my perception. I played with the tabs and the trim, it was hard to listen the response of the engine with the trim due to the wind today. So I was going by the RPM meter a lot.

The tabs seem slow, and I guess because I'm not as high out of the water anymore, the effects seemed less prominent. I get comfortable and head out to the main body of the lake, it handled flawlessly, and again, completely different than my PQ. I launched a few time and always dead on level. The bow didn't move at all, it just sliced through everything. Not once did I get "jarred" from a hard landing.

Throttle was very sensitive, too easy to move, is there some kind of brake or tension screw to make it harder to push? I didn't really get on it too much, GPS was 63 and that was going with the rollers.

The good:
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...sfirstday2.jpg

The bad: I got wet, especially when coming to a quick stop, not sure if it's due to being closer to the water or the steps catching when slowing down, but I got sprayed in a major way on about 5 occasions. The seat, it's pretty low when you sit in it and the bolster doesn't drop all the way, it hits the floor for stand up. I really never got comfortable, but I just need to get the 3" steering extension instead of the 9" that's on there now.

THE UGLY:

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...RollerBolt.jpg

The trailer is a brand new Zieman, and due to my inexperience I didn't notice it had a VERY small roller, so small that the roller bolt sticks out past the roller about 1.25" on the starboard side. Well after doing my runs I called my wife to come get me, we spoke about putting the trailer in deeper than before, so she did. I was worried about the wind but my approach was pretty good, and here comes the ugly. The bow catches the roller and slides past it on the right hand side, the side where the bolt is sticking out. Yup!:eek::eek::eek:

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...oltdamage2.jpg

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...oltdamage1.jpg

So tomorrow I will be putting a normal size roller on and patching that up until I can find someone to repair it with the gel matching. The boat WAS really in mint condition, and now I put my dumb a$$ mark on it the first time out.

boatnt 04-09-2011 10:42 PM

That sucks Bert!!

Oh well fix it and move on,,
I allways cut off the extra portion of the bolt even with the nut so that doesnt happen(the part your finger is on)..you might want to do that as well..

Next time try loading the boat with out the trailer been so far in the water.

Good Luck

bert4332 04-09-2011 10:48 PM

Yeah it was it was the perfect set of event to F*ck myself, she was in a lil too much, which caused the it to slide off in the first place, but the damn roller is about the size of my fist, too small. And yes, any bolts extending gets the sawlz-all for sure. Trying to move on, but I'll be pissed until I can find someone to color match the damn gel coat.

AJ POWERPLAY 04-10-2011 07:23 AM

Ouch man sorry to hear that... nothing a little touch up won't fix! Boat looks killer in the water

boatnt 04-10-2011 08:08 AM

Replace that bow stop with a Stoltz bow stop/roller its one of the best made bow stops and the it has big end bell to protect the side of the boat.

verbi69 04-10-2011 09:25 AM

Oh man that sucks large!
It's the first bump and scratch that kills the most.
Good luck with the repair.
Boat looks awesome nonetheless!!

POWERPLAY J 04-10-2011 03:39 PM

Man that sucks! I remember the first scratch I put in my brand new sunsation. Even worse they are most likely gonna spot your gelcoat so you will always have a sign of repair. If at all possible have them fix the spot and base it and clear the whole side. That way it will never come back...

What does "spot" my gelcoat mean? What is better than "spotting" ?

spotting is where they will fix the area and spray gel then blend it out then rub back the blend so its not visible. After a while and the more you polish/rub the boat the blend will pull back. Sometimes the gel they use will discolor and there will be an area that is off color. You have a very nice boat so do some research before you have any work done. Fyi if it was mine I'd do base/clear so I never have to worry about it coming back. BTW I do this for a living if it matters...

How much more $$ to shoot the clear?

+1 Bert Jay is right my last boat I had some gel done and you could see the colors not matching as time went on, it won't be too cheap to fix but save your money up and fix it right and you will never see it again.

Take your time and speak to people near you that are great for this repair get their take on it! Ask what method they use or would do?

boatnt 04-11-2011 06:55 AM

Bert

a good boat repair shop could repair that without a halo, get a hold of Glassdave (member on board)and talk to him

repair it and if it ever comes back you have the option to clear it then..

and J is correct if not done right you will be able to spot the repair,no one else might be able but you will be and thats what counts..

There's no way I could give you an estimate without seeing it. I did light scratches on a 32 Sunsation last year. One side $550.00 plus materials. Ask around and find the best guy in your area.
