Hey Kid, I think I only have about 15-17 years on you AJ...just can't help but think your wrong about the dying breed. Just like you most of my school buddies were/are tuition poor while I was hanging out with boaters 15-20 years older thinking I was the only Gen-Xer in this sport. I've had to eat Kraft dinner and drink cheap beer but always had fuel in the boat. Like my last comment, us guys dedicated to the sport are keeping it alive and well...so too you, happy to read all your posts...take the torch and bring more friends into the sport! :drink:

Hey I bought my first boat back in 1983 when I was 20 years old,,it was a 1976 Slickraft 235 ss,me and my wife (girlfriend at the time) loved it,owned a lot of boats since then and I enjoy this sport/hobby just as much now as I did back then,,,
the view only changes from the outside in,,from the inside out its still the same!

Im sorry Im so old I forgot ,what are we talking about again?

I bought my first 24' Pantera from Stormrider and then sold it to Ziemer... That is the reason for the comment that I made to them about Stepping to the Plate...

maybe you missed the multiple threads where its been mentioned I live with my dad and make decent money. Surely used panteras are in my price range.... knowing id grow out of my 288 so fast I woulda went to a dominator right off the bat.

1350's, maybe after I hit the mega millions.

tryed the synthetic oil in the past and was not too impressed,

on this boat I will go with a ac filter and Castrol GTX 20w50 oil

isnt the 288 and 32 the same boat but 32 has a longer beak?so if you dont want to worry about growing out of a boat maybe you should look at a PQ,,its not about speed its about style,,at least thats what AJ keeps telling me.

Kendall GT-1 20W50 is also a good choice if you are going to go with a conventional oil. Has high levels of ZDDP and Merc recommends it in the 600 SC owner's manual.

I shoulda just bought my moms century and went old school....

You are correct same boat, I went to the boat show a few years back and the wife and I went in a Fastech I think 35' or 36' whatever they make and that even felt small. I think power boats in the cockpit will always feel small even a 47' Apache. That's why you have friends with cruisers:eek::drink:

Yep you are correct, a friend puts that in his Top Gun with 700s and likes it,,I used Castrol GTX in the past and liked it, but I meant to say Kendall GT-1 20w50,,thanks

sunsation96 05-03-2011 10:18 AM

I am using Amsoil right now but that is $o much money I really hate the fact it cost me $200 to change oil that is nuts

I think if your anything like me and change oil every 35 hours or so any quality oil will do.

AJ POWERPLAY 05-03-2011 11:56 AM

Outgrow your boat kid? I don't think anyone told you to get the 32 off the bat bc 288 wouldn't be enough did they? Or did they?? :party-smiley-004:

Drock78 05-03-2011 12:45 PM

I think im gonna try running the Valvoline VR-1 great oil and only $4 a quart and a high flow oil filter. Was gonna go with royal purple but at almost $10 a quart it gets a bit salty

AJ POWERPLAY 05-03-2011 02:37 PM

I run valvoline too Derek, works like a charm

THE 288 KID 05-03-2011 05:55 PM

I run the valvoline vr1 racing oil. Been super happy with it so far. I always use the Merc racing filter because it is black and looks cool on the motor. LOL. I bought the oil at auto zone on sale for 2.50 a qt. bought a couple cases because it was so cheap.
