did you leave the outdrives up during winter??? I have no idea how long it has been like that. I'm wondering if this a weldable repair or if I should change out the case?? |

No, when I was washing and waxing the boat getting it ready for its winter sleep I noticed that there was a crack running the length of the bottom of the bullet.

Any water not able to drain out of the case can freeze, expand and split the case.

Anyone ever seen something like this happen? It's on my power steering hoses, in a couple spots, just above the outdrives. There's nothing around the hoses that could hit them and cause this. My mechanic is replacing them, but he said they are a two-ply type of hose that the inner part was not punctured. There are no visible leaks so I agree with him, but I told him to replace them anyways. I don't need them busting while coming across the bay at night time. Just thought I'd see if anyone else has ever seen this happen. Brad |
It is with great sadness that I have decided to sell my PowerPlay... Due to financial issues its best if I free up some payments

Just saw this on ebay, seems like a steal of a deal if someone is looking for a 290!

Mike, was the oil milky when drained? If cracked for very long water could be drawn in as the drive cools. Look for corrosion on the internals. If you don't know how the crack happened be sure to check everything to make sure you're not just fixing a result instead of a cause.:poopoo:
When i was doing the oil change in the fall thats when i noticed the crack. I did take a chunk out of the skeg on my very first outing the first year and I had it repaired and put on stainless skeg protectors. The welding shop told me that the lower was welded on before, probably from a previous incident. Im not sure if i should weld it up or replace the housing. |
