While I really do love the flat decks, the 43 with this deck, really looks great. I'm not sure what I'm going to do in regards to paint. The "flag" has grown on me, but I'm still not sure I'm going to keep it. We will see how much time the stagger project takes. If it goes quickly, then I will think about repainting the boat over the winter.

Jeff,
Those are some ballsy, fork lift drivers. So where are you at with this project? Chris Cats are cool old boats, what are you planning on for power? Also do you have a restoration thread going for it?

I did see that one, and if it was still for sale, I may have gone and looked at it. However, I think that sold over the winter, the ad has been gone for at least a month now. Did the Loto boat say what his speeds were with that Combo? Does any one know who bought it? Seeing that its basically the same set up as what mine will be, I'm like to know how it had it set up, and how it performed.

With the 38 I was worried about over powering the hull, but with this 43, it will take all the power I can throw at it. Plus with the 38 I was going to run #4 drives, and the 43 has #5 Drives. The 4's are fine in the 900-1000 range, but I would not feel comfortable with 1200 hp going to them. The 5's will support that.
So that is the story on the engines.

Lots of guys putting 900 hp to 4's, and I've heard that a 5, if driven right, can handle 1100-1200. Again, it all depends on how you drive. I looked into putting a set of 6's on the 38, but the gear sets are almost 3X the cost and are not 3x the strength. IMO the 5 is the better value, and it plenty strong for my application.

The forklift drivers were me and my 14 years old daughter!
resto will be looonnnng! But that is not important to me just having fun doing it with the very little time available to do it! Repower is way down the road! Inbords for now, todays trend is outboard, maybe when im ready inboards will come back, wich i hope will be the choice, but we ll see...

The Scarab is sold. The new owner is excited, and will be taking a bit of a different direction from what I was going to do. I'll be forwarding this page to him. I hope he opens an account, and keeps us all up to date on his progress.
