That bottom job looks great ! Who did it ? I have been thinking about the possibilty of getting the bottom of my Concept painted ... if it doesnt sell ..... What did they do lift the boat and paint one half at a time ? Also .... how will that paint hold up when on and off a trailer or lift ect .... ?

Not 100% sure how they did jdub's but I will throw in my 2-cents worth & how most are done & in the order of preferance for most painters I'm sure..

1st. drain all fluids & flip the boat over.

2nd Safely hang the boat so nothing is touching the bottom.

3rd. & Probably the most common is to set it on some good blocks or similar (usually 2 in the rear & 1 on the front in the V) or set it on some sort of dolly such as in Dub's pics. & Paint it , or Gel it ect.. & then after its cured some time move the gadgets & spot that area in.

Im sure there are other ways that would work too.. but these are the most common & yes your idea would work in some situations without having a line along the bottom but there is not really an area sharp enuff on the bottom of the 28 Saber to do it without leaving some sort of edge...

Without sounding trying to sound overly nosey why are you wanting to shoot the bottom of the Concept ?? Color Change ?? Chips & Scratches ?? Just want fresh paint ?? None of my business ect... ?? --- ( Acutally I was just about to head off to bed & the revelation hit me & I though "I must go edit !!" However the vision is a bit blurry & I can't see clearly what color your Concepet is but I hear a voice saying you are wanting to paint it yellow in order to speed it up a few mph.) thats it isn't it ?? ---

I ask that b/c unless it Really-Really needed it I would NOT reccomend it... If its chipped up some , scratched ect.. patching with gel works really good in most situations... esp with it being a pretty new boat I assume... I don't care what kind of paint , or who puts it on ect.. it will not hold up like gelcoat in several ways.. Not saying it doesn't have its places & Jdubs situation was much differant & I feel he made the a good decision on his particular boat & his particular situation... I fixed about 40 spots & re-gelcoated the bottom on a hi-perf. Bass boat a few weeks ago in Black gel & it was a frigging nightmare to say the least & it was only 20'

Actually Jerry I just got a good idea for your Concept if you don't sell it... After all it just passed 1:30 in the am & I'm slashing prices !!! Tow that sled down here & leave it with me for the summerish... I will retun it to you shinny bottom & quite possibly with a few more hours logged on the metter & probably a bit low on fuel sometime "say" about septemberish.. Who knows if you catch me in the right mood I may even deliver it back north just before you put clifford up !! lol...

I did it like Scott said with the dollies. Not sure how most people do it but with my last three boats this is what has worked for me. Paint the whole bottom in one shot. About a week later move the dollies forward about a foot and spot in. Russ G here on OSO did my paint work. The paint holds up good. I use bunk trailers also and they don't seem to tear it up. I think as long as it's prepped good and you use a good paint it's a good alternative.

Thanks for the info Scott !!! I just keep throwing the idea around of a refresh on the Concept and make it a red hull to match Clifford ? Maybe if you bring me your 28 to keep for a while we can strike a deal ???

No problem glad to help anytime.. Man I was afraid my boat headed north would be involved in that equasion somehow !!!

All jokes aside the Concept would look nice with the sides in solid red & maybe pick up a touch of the silver & black in clifford.. It could be done real classy !! leaving the upper & lower in white gel... Lets do it !!! then maybe I can finish up my boat !!! lol..

My Dad has been toying around for a while with the idea of a27-30 with twins setup real similar to yours & JD's.. swept back console , no t-top , flat deck up front , bolsters & the rear bench.. ect.. He spend alot of time on the S.W. coat of Florida & He currently has a nice 272 formula he has had for several years & he trades around on fishing boats quite often & currently has a super slick 22' Ranger Caymen with a 250 Yamaha & he really likes the boat but we have been talking about condensing him into a duel purpose boat & the hotrod Concept would be a great choice..

Jdub sorry buddy I really need to start using PM's intead of your threads , or just start my own but that would take some of the fun out of it !!

Foam blocks, big foam blocks. Like 4x4 blocks (feet, not inches).
