I knew you couldn't hold out.... If I remember correctly that's about what I set the Corsa at also (17 3/4). Remeber it's always cheaper to go down then up! I'll run her for a season like this to get a base line then I'll start messing with it.

Yeah I remember us talking about it before & I was thinking your corsa was at 18".

I would think when your boat was built it was probably running a 3 blabe & most likely still had pretty high slip numbers even set where it is ?? It will be interesting to see how it all works out & Yeah it was always my thinking that I could drop down for a couple hundred bucks as opposed to a couple thousand for a shortie or not to mention the other nightmare...

Maybe someday before the end of days we will get to see if I'm correct but I'm real confident that mine will work out just fine where it is for several reasons..

Oh you will be fine. Both the Corsa and the Excalibur I did had around 18" X. They ran nice with not much trim needed. I know the Saber hull is a bit different but should benefit the same.

My only concern with this deep X on my Saber is I'm so used to not having to trim much to get optimal speed... when it got rough in my other boats (excalibur/corsa) they still ran nice and flat without having to tuck the trim in because of the high X. Now I will have to work the trim more in the rough so I don't send the nose up. I'm also curious about how it will feel with the gas tank located behind the back seat instead of the belly of the boat.

Was yours differant than most as far as the gas tank configuration goes ?? All the others I have seen were under the floor & not like yours ? Maybe they did the singles that way ??
Anyways I will be carrying my fuel a bit further back than you..

When I spoke with Doug he made it seem they did it that way for balance after they made the first boat...mine being hull #2. As far as I know mine is the only one built like this. Makes for great storage both under the rear seat and floor. I'll post some pics.

When you say you'll be carrying fuel further back are you doing saddle bags in the engine compartment?

Although I have not really seen many of the Sabers anyway none of then I have seen had tank , or tanks done the way your is.. I would personally rather have it that way in a single , but thats me..

Yeah , Thats what I been grinding this week for.. I have the mounts all fabbed up for one side & about finished building & laminating the other side today.. I bought 2 really nice tanks out of a 41 Apache & after getting them in they were a bit tighter fitting than I wanted , so I cut them down where I wanted them & also had to cut off the old mounts fab up some knew ones , sending units & mount pads , crossover's ect..ect.. I then had a certain individual who happens to also have great tatse for yellow & black Saber's send me some material that I was soooo grateful for !! (thanks again Dan !!)

I have been Majorly held up on getting some tig work done on them (long story) but I have that problem solved now & should get them back pretty soon, then I can finish glassing in my mounts & the Finally start painting the bilge !!! Then you guys will get some pics.. lol.

What is the X dimension on the boat? The drive looks like it's buried in the water from the pic.

Jason , We keep playing phone tag !! I seen where you called me back last night & I tried getting back with you earlier today but missed you.. Give me a shout when you get a chance...

Jdub's X is roughly in the low 14" range if you compare by using the bottom of the cutout.
