We'll see if I get a little leverage that way. The salesman is fixated on the $7K trailor so maybe I'll offer 7K less and drive it home down the Cumberland, dry store it at Old Hickory, then buy a local trailor from a desperate dealer.

thats sounds like fun ,i wish i could be there

You are there, i.e. the folder under my arm. I would not have the opportunity to be there without you. I appreciate you man.It will probably be a couple weeks before I get back up there, but in the mean time I am trying to give him enough rope to hang himself via email. I 'll call you and give the details this weekend or soon there after.

P.S. he emailed me today, email titled '97 SCR. I will try to convince him that decals alone will cost me $1K. He thinks I am a collector, I woulden't change decals if my life depended on it. I happen to like this SCrS decals. Do you still have any info on the previous owners?

502SCS 07-23-2009 10:51 PM

Just buy the damn thing and send us picks of you having fun on it for gods sake :lolhit:

doublehemlock 07-24-2009 07:41 AM

I am trying. I can put a good down payment on it, but can't pay for it in cash right now. Since the boat is not listed in NADA, it is difficult to get financing, especially in todays market. I need to be creative and try to get the price down as much as possible. Besides, he is doesn't know what he is selling and is aware that I do know what he is selling, yet he is still trying to BS me.

I'm missing something u have seen the boat, its for sale, just buy it!!! unless he wants more than 25k for it... u will not be disappointed if its the boat u want!!! :party-smiley-004:

doublehemlock 07-28-2009 02:54 PM

This is the boat I want. I just don't have all the cash in hand. I can liquidate a few things, but would rather finance a portion of the boat. That being said, I agree with you on the value. Now I need my Credit Union to agree with me. Once that is done the seller and I can agree on a price. In the meantime I am trying to gather as much info as I can to negotiate with both my lender and the seller.

freshwaterfiend 07-29-2009 08:53 AM

The 1997 SCS was listed in NADA when I purchased mine in 2007. Did they remove it?

doublehemlock 07-29-2009 10:07 AM

I found a 1998 SCS, but no 1997.

Hi everyone; First time poster here.I have been out of boating since the late eighties and after a lot thought have decided on buying a Scarab. We're going to look at an SCS that's for sale in Toronto at prestige motors. They had it up for 33k and have dropped the price to 26,900. Boat is supposed to have less than 150 hrs.Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Thanks,Leon.

Thanks coolhand502. The boat has the 454/Bravo1 drive with Hardin hyd steering.Pretty well stock except for an '08 Holley 650 Marine dominator. The drive only has 10 hours on it.We're heading up this weekend,i'll keep you posted,Thanks Leon.

502SCS 09-01-2009 08:24 AM

Carb??
The boat should have a 454/502 MPI not a carb motor
That would be a BIG deal breaker for me.
sounds like a powerplant swap took place and I would really look into the 150 hr thing !

502SCS 09-01-2009 08:28 AM

502SCS 09-01-2009 06:00 PM

Would any of you guys buy a carb version of the scs for more than 10k in this economy ??? I think not
So tell the guy like it is .. 502 or 454 MPI is the one to look for.
Hell if he wants to throw 26k around I got a 502mpi in great shape for him .. :-)

They did make some carbed versions - I came across one when I started my SCS hunting.

I have seen the boat in question and it is okay but not great. There are pics on kijiji.ca I think. It's got mufflers on the back rather than the downturned tips, and all the graphics are YELLOW not orange. The trailer looked not so great either. Interior was in fair condition from the pictures but somewhat mangled over stock.

Overall, I'd pass. I bought a brand new one for $26,500US with a 502MPI in it (not including trailer) so there are better deals out there. Look in the States.

Prostreeter 09-03-2009 06:43 AM

Anyone know about this SCS in Minnesota? Looks to be in decent condition for a 13 year old boat.Doesn't have trim tabs though.

This dude's been trying to sell it for a month on Ebay with very few lowball offers. He started out at 20k.I bet someone could get it for 13,000.

And no,I'm not interested in it.Very happy being boatless:drink:

502SCS 09-05-2009 07:23 AM

looks like he sold it

Unitek 09-14-2009 03:44 PM

I offered 13k and he didnt take it. He said he wanted 15k bottom dollar and I told him to get lost. 15k for a 12 year old boat is retarded.. especially in this economy.

TUESDAYSRAIN SCS 09-21-2009 07:42 PM

just bought this boat the one in minnesota scs 502 the boat is insane !! only 52 hrs

As for the boat, what an attention getter this is at the lake. They didn't make many of these in their short production run.I'm sure your aware that this boat was featured in the 1997 movie "Face Off".

Did you happen to buy the boat in Lewisville,Tx.

There are a couple SCS owners on this forum and I'm sure they'll be around shortly.Have fun with that boat.I know I am.

Steve

I love this boat 97 scarab scs the boat was the boat in minnesota for sale only 52 hrs on NEW not rebuilt 502 motor boat in excellent condition and the reason for the new motor was because of the exhaust water leaked back into the motor like previously posted upgraded too emi thunder boat is curently in south texas 23 pitch prop I think it could use a little more???any ideas???

I have a 26p 4 plade Bravo II Prop on my 502 SCS
It works great .. a smidge on the tall side but I like that lower RPM cruising at 60 mph

502SCS 09-21-2009 09:27 PM

to my understanding they only made 500 hundred white scarab scs,and 14 orange scarab scs they destroyed 2 orange scs in the movie face off thus leaving us 12 left in the world.they also destroyed 12 white scs thus leaving us only 488 white scs in the world.

freshwaterfiend 09-22-2009 11:57 AM

Wow 488 in the world. That's not a big number at all.

Stay tuned for my interior revamp this winter. Time to bring the boat fully in line with modern standards. Time to start building out a parts list . . .

Did he get the fading on the deck cleaned up ? There were light spots in the gel coat.

502SCS 09-22-2009 12:25 PM

The only add on I really wanted to add was the holley/b&m injected supercharger that was discontinued. WHat a great Idea it was with the Injection and supercharger in 1 managed unit for marine applications. I tried for 4 years to find one and never could get my hands on it. THat was a real great idea that never took off.

THe orange ones get that every year even if the are kept in a garage like mine. I just hit it with the buffer every winter and clean it up .. Gel coat is thick :-)
