Heath, are you going to install a lifting ram to each hatch? If not, I would recommend that you secure them down somehow. I noticed on mine that they do bounce up and down and have worn the gel coat off where they touch the deck.

That's in the plans Patrick but down the road. I have some ideas on making the engine compartment nice.

Look see I told you. Your just about ready to go hatches, wind screen Now you just need engines and drives !!!!

Got some more done. Me and Brian worked on it Thursday night and drilled the cleat bolt holes, cut out the instrument holes, hole sawed the fuel fill, and water fill holes. (We’re keeping the saddle tanks) Today we we took the deck back off the hull to prep the hull for the final install. This hull has a 1” tall piece of plywood glassed down the sides for the deck screws to attach to. Dan and Dave have advised me to get rid of it and tab the deck on. Looks like that’s what we’re going to be doing. This is an early flat deck, and there are a few places where the factory deck screws completely miss the wood. Lotsa grinding coming up..https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f9461974d.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2cd5a2bcd.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...cba5a1f45.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...02106aba9.jpeg |
A top notch resto likes this takes time, skill, knowledge, patience, stamina and a well equipped shop. Unfortunately, the only one of the above I possess is time, and that's running out too. :) I'm content to follow along and live vicariously through your exploits. Keep up the good work. RR . |
Definitely tab the deck down!..........I used epoxy and 1700 cloth around the "whole" inside perimeter (27' Magnum) a little difficult to squeeze in the tight spaces when the deck is on but
it's the only way......I've heard of terrible instances of a boat stuffing and the deck separating from the hull..........I would say "a screwed down deck is probably the weakest point in a old skool 70's boat. |

Little more tonight. Cut off the plywood block from both sides of the deck. Yowza. Also trimmed the bulkheads some. Started gtinding down the sides to tab the deck on. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...27acfd61e.jpeg Check out the circled dent on the plywood strip where the deck was hard against it from the factory. It wouldn’t let the deck go down as far as it need to, I’ll be correcting that. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d259aca76.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e24e3e8c7.jpeg |
Looking good! Keep it up! |
