The boats that are going to be there next season that I know are as follows:
Baja 442 in Helsinki
Baja 38 in Mikkeli I guess
Baja 29 in Helsinki?
Powerquest 260 in Helsinki
And then some older boats like Formulas, Performance, Mach 1 etc.
Do you know others?

In Turku* and my knowing ofThereīs the following boats:
*The Scarab 38 KV MV edition (told to be one of the TV series boats but not so sure about it, my friend has it today with Diesels...YUCK is my opinion)
*A Baja 420 ES also with twin diesels.
*the Former Offshore racer "Talvisota" (Winter War) a 385 Stinger.
Another 385 Stinger was here (moved to Sweden)
*2 312 Stingers
*3-4 26 Nova spyders
*29 Scarab
*30 Scarab
*some 30+ Formulas one with Diesels..(YUck).

A 32 Baja was sold from here (a former racer by Wegelius) (Black...the one that hit a log in Stockholm-Helsinki Race way back..)
Plus then There a few cats
A 27 Cougar
35 Chris Cat
36 Bella Falcon (Skater ?)
Also there has been at least one 32 Sea Ray Pachanga.

So there IS plenty of boats for Poker runs...here in Turku Archipelago we had few years back some poker runs.

Did all 38KVīs have a Kevlar hull...Iīm told Wellcraft had a KEV/ Kevlar text below the serial number if it was a kevlar hull ?
If yes then Im definitely searching for a 38KV MV.

I believe thats the boat 38vice has...and thats the in my eyes best colour scheme of these models.
Well the side of the canopy could be black like the dashboard to make the boat look sleeker.

Re: Miami Vice Scarabs

Can anyone tell me if the Miami Vice edition boat, can be the true Miami Vice boat ,even if it does NOT have the radar arch?
We have a '87 38 Scarab KV,which looks like the Miami Vice boat, same graphics, and from your description ,has the the flat, non skid top deck(although the middle of the top deck has a raised area down the middle where the rail goes down the length)
It does have the thick fiberglass windscreen, not Plexiglas.
The thing looks so much like it ,that today ,when we pulled up at a bar,a guy there freaked out ....he had a Miami vice t-shirt at home and actually drove home, got the shirt, came back ,and gave it to us.The boat on the shirt looks just like ours, just no radar arch, also the engine hatch on ours is flat,no raised area like there is in pictures.
We were wondering if someone could have removed the arch and put another hatch cover on it so they had a usable sun deck,or if thats the way it came and its NOT a true Miami Vice boat
If anyone has the specs on the true Miami Vice boat could they get a hold of us?
With all the things we keep reading here we are wondering if we have one
The guy we bought it from said it was a Miami vice boat theme and would be a classic. But we bought it because we fell in love with it........

There where only 3 boat uses for filming of the show, Look for holes on your dash and deck for the camera mounts

Re: Miami Vice Scarabs

Oh,maybe I was misunderstood
We know its not one of the originals that was used in the show
There is no way it could be one of them
what we are wondering if it was one of the 100 (this was mentioned way earlier in this thread) that were made that looked like it

Diddo on the engine covers. I'd also like to get the middle cleat/deck rail if anyone knows where to get these.

As far as the arch, search the site, I recall reading a post where someone will make one, but they're not cheap at all.

I cantacted the manufacturer that made the radar arches.

Free had them make a radar arch for him.
They quoted me a price of about $7000.00 to have one made.

Yep, Marquipt was the original manufacturer of the Arch for Wellcraft. They still have the blueprints for both (short arch and tall arch). It is made of welded aluminum (no seams whatsoever) I bought mine a couple of years ago at a little over 5k. Painted it myself, since it comes primed.

The only 2 True Miami vice 38 scarabs left is Mine and the one in Germany. Mine was a 3 year project even before it hit the water. It was a deck off restoration, every nut and bolt inspected or replaced. All documents up to date threw Wellcraft. It is now in the water and rests at Bonnie Castle Resort and Marina In Alexandria Bay NY. Stop by and take a look!

I would like to see it again its been quit some time since I saw it.

Hereīs the boat youīre after...
Been since 1989 in Finland and confiscated by the Finnish IRS in real life too.
Nowadays itīs my friends boat..we both challenged each other at the IRS auction and the next winter it stayed at my shop as the owner didnīt have a warm garage where to work with it.
Dons personal boat used in the 4th season episodes

Bytheway this oneīs verified too by Wellcraft as they still at the time I checked could verify it (10yrs ago).
The one in Germany is stated as a 1990 model but no KVīs where made then anymore..hull number state itīs a 1989 so if you look closely at the season 5 episodes thereīs only one still shot of it. The rest of season 5 shots of a Scarab are older shots.
And the one in Germany has the optional interior which Iīve seen in another 38KV (non MV) and a 34 Ninja too.

theres also a rumor that this one in Finland was the Stunt boat and reinforced but another Camera boat is in Norway too.
So that makes 4 real MV boats.

thats more of a cruiser than a offshore boat and has nothing to do with Miami Vice Stingers.
I did an engine rebuild for Talvisotas Sistership.
The original block serves as my garages door step nowadays..

I later found the "Save the old race boats" thread and you can answer there then. And it was you that mentioned the Talvisota in this thread.

MikeyFIN 06-10-2007 07:33 PM

That was a FEW years ago I mentioned Talvisota on this thread.

Just answered FlyingFinn as he left A Lot of boats out even then from his hometown..including one Formula 302 with Kaama Surface drives and a Cougar 46 US-1 that I rode with while it was brand new.
But enough of offtopic..keep that in other forums.
This is about Scarab (38KV) MV editions.

MikeyFIN 09-05-2007 01:55 PM

The Verified one with greetings under the Laminate by wellcraft workers to Don Johnson has been in Finland since 1989 and was bought from the an auction held by the TV-company.
So apparently thereīs more than one.
At least this one over here is 100% genuine and I personally have traced it as being delivered new by Wellcraft to the TV-company.
Iīm told the one in Oslo is a Camera boat as it doesnīt have the Race/blower Hatches therefore not DJīs personal boat but a MV boat nonetheless.
Is it a 1986 model as this one here is a 1987 and has the race hatches.
Thereīs not a single pic of a 38KV in the series with a engine lid without the race hatches.

http://www.northoffshore.com/images/...z_PICT1012.JPG

ferraristyle 09-06-2007 08:34 AM

There was a 38KV MV Scarab that Wellcraft gave to Don Johnson but was not used in the series. It has the plaque that you pictured and should have a signiture or another plaque inside the cabin somewhere. I remember reading that some of the builders signed their name to the boat but I don't remember exactly where.

Last I heard that boat was in Norway or Sweeden or somewhere like that. There are at least 3s ome says as many as 6 boats that were used on the show. There's a camera boat, one with a black arch, and one with the rainbow arch. There may be more or less but from the research I've done on my own this is what I was able to come up with.

MikeyFIN 09-07-2007 06:11 AM

Actually the one in Finland was delivered to the TV-company who then gave it to DJ officially (taxing I suppose) or then the TV-company just let DJ use it, but it was also used as a prop boat and was painted over to the 1988 livery or why would it be oversprayed if not used in the show too?
Itīs signatured inside also by the builders on the laminate And I believe you heard it from me first on a MV-site.
It was actioned 1989 with all the other props and the plaques might be added by the TV-company to boost the prices up on all the 3/6 boats.
Iīve heard rumours that thereīs more than these two with the plaque (which seems to differ on both boats) but the German boat which is listed as a 1990 boat (hull no a 1989 and the series ended 1989) doesnīt have it as neither does it come up in any pics on the show either.

Edit: the first season boat ( the one in USA) does also have somekinda plaque but itīs black.

Ferraristyle one with a black arch??
Donīt you mean a silver with dark sides, thats the one over here that my friend has and itīs the one which is resprayed wrong as you see in the pic I provided ?
Now you also forgot the one with the silver arch, which I believe the dark sides got installed later in the show.
Also the German one has one like it (silver/dark sides).

The number of the boats being 6 comes from the MV-crew stating that but sofar I know 3-4, the first season boat in USA, the Camera boat in Norway, the 3rd season (and maybe 2nd too) told to be used by DJ personally (I donīt count out the one in Norway also being used by him) and the one ? in Germany.
If the one in Germany is real itīs seen only on Episode 111, Freefall, in one take sitting still on the docks if my memory doesnīt fail me.

ANyways, we now have proof that there are two boats with a bronze plaque. If there are more it would be most interesting to see the plaques here. Could you help me out with new instruments. (The old ones are completely shot.)

Thanks Johs

MikeyFIN 09-19-2007 02:03 AM

Thereīs people here that restore gauges but itīs not worth the price actually, the ones on the Finnish boat is VDOīs so unfortunately the original ones are also shot so no, canīt help you with that.
Iīd love to get hold of the genuine gauges too although they should be ordinary Merc gauges from one of the series they made.
The camera boat is in good use in one of the episodes where they are on a stakout in a boatshed.
(Edit..Payback seassn 3)

Yes I would also like to see more of these plaques up close.
Apparently the TV-company added these plaques to boost the prices in the auction.

johs andre solberg 09-19-2007 08:24 AM

I can confirm that the camera boat is in Oslo. There are 4 small holes in the gelcoat on each side of the front deck. As several others around different locations, although with new gelcoat on top.
There are also signatures in the cabin and indications that it was in time handed over to Don Johnson.

Anyways thanks for all the help. Let's keep the originals in Scandinavia.

Johs

MikeyFIN 09-21-2007 02:42 AM

Seems the Signatures inside and out are on both boats.

So apaprently don had yours first and then it became the camera boat?
The one in Finland was told at some time being also used as a stunt boat?

I just purchased the first MV KV from Tom in New York. It is the one from the Thousand Island region. It has extensive documentation. He did a fantastic job on the restoratin.
