With dry eexhaust it would work. I'd look for 114 lsa if you have factory exhaust. Performance manifolds and tails and you can normally get away with 112 without reversion.

if it was me, i would build a nice reliable 540...

if it was me, i would build a nice reliable 540 and roll on with it. save the 496 complete to put back in the boat when you sell. then you get to keep your big motor on the side for the next boat...

it probably leaked from first start. it may be an older 2 piece seal block which are harder to get installed than the one piece. ten hours isnt that long of a time.
