Re: Boat racing or GPS speed watching

Peconic,

That would only be in violation of the rules if you forget to remove the two dumbbells from the cockpit at the crane.

(OSS, rule number 5, applicable to all classes specifies that...

Re: Boat racing or GPS speed watching

Joe,

Some teams do not have the resources to compete in "premier" classes. That doesn't necessarily mean that they shouldn't be afforded the opportunity to compete in as fair a manner as...

Re: Boat racing or GPS speed watching

Al,

Re: Boat racing or GPS speed watching

one thing that i think is important to notice is even though the difference between top and lap speeds that sbi is using is a good approach and is generally accurate, it won't apply to every race...

Re: Boat racing or GPS speed watching

My opinion is that a combination of average lap speeds and a handful of well thought out technical rules is vastly superior to GPS, without the additional costs and logistics of placing equipment in...

Re: Brick OPA Results

So, inferring from some of the posts here, if a guy with a little boat wants to be competitive in P5 there are two choices:

1. Make sure his boat is capable of 80 mph to guarantee he can safely...

Whiteknuckle,

We bought the boat back in '99 and to be honest we haven't spent great amounts of time dialing it in. Since we're racing in the P5 class where the boat's top speed in "ideal"...

Whiteknuckle,

My father and I race an '89 Rocket, mostly on the east coast. We ran a few GLSCS races in '00 and '01. It was originally an A class boat, but has since been repowered. I don't...

Shane,

Thanks for the kind words. Though I'm not in the market for a home or refinance at the moment, I've been watching the rates go down (and home prices continue to skyrocket), and wishing I...

Shane, What about expense ratios on money...

Shane,

What about expense ratios on money market funds? If rates go to .5%, and expense ratios are in that range or higher they could actually lose money unless they lower costs to the investor.

Shane,

I guess a lot depends on how investors perceive the rate cut. If people think it will help the stock markets further recover, then wouldn't bonds sell off somewhat as the money shifts more...

I wouldn't worry too much about rates going lower.

I don't know much for certain about these boats except that they were made in Georgia. I believe from 1991-2001, by S & J manufacturing. I remember seeing them for sale at a boatel where I kept a...

ryan,

from strictly a competitive standpoint, your 24' skater w/ t-200hp would run nicely with the current APBA P3 fleet. You might have a slight advantage in those rare "ideal" conditions (like...

Ron,

Because size is not a factor (more accurately, not a consideration) in P classes, the number of smaller boats has dwindled. I remember that at the St. Pete World's in 99 there were no less...

Ron,

Very true. If you ran a perfect race, in ideal conditions, you'd be averaging lap speeds at least 5 mph slower than your top speed, and even slower on short courses or those with lots of...

Ron,

Prop calculation works great for estimating top speeds (provided the inputs are valid), and it is a good tool to help place boats in the proper class. It should definitely be used at the...

Ron,

What would you do if a boat was GPS'd just a fraction under the break out speed in other than ideal conditions? You wouldn't be measuring a boat's top speed, but instead its top speed...
