sounds like exhaust. i would pull the exhaust manifold and check again. see if the port on the manifold looks white. check with a garden hose why its off. good luck.

you might want to consiter KONRADS. i never herd of one ever braking . and they use transmisions, nice smooth shifting. no Clunking when putting it in gear. i have them and love them.
