My 280 was the factory demo boat and they put the speaker in a box in the engine bay on the port side. Probably a better place to put it but you don't loose any space.

I believe the 280 is designed to run 71-74 mph. Mine gets to be a hand full sometimes after 75 under certain water conditions....
