I went out with Joe in that boat on Thursday for one last test before it shipped down to Hideaway. That boat does not need a windshield, and it has an LCD that shows the speed digitally, so when the...

Re: Sunsations new 43' f-4 breaks 90mph

I asked Joe about the weight last week. He said about 10k. You'd better get your orders in now, boys! They have quite a few on back order right now, before the boat did a one-off! When they...

Re: Cam or Thru-Hulls--Did the site let me down?

I think this is the best suggestion yet!

I think outside of a much bigger motor, or something entirely wild, I'm getting about as much out of this old boat as possible. I'm running about 40 (GPS)...

Re: Small amount of condensation on my oil filler cap? On 350 Mag engine

Yes, I noticed a lot of steam coming out of the breathers on my motor. Dr. Jerry (the local boat mechanic that hangs out at the marina and drinks beer with us every weekend) said the same...

Cam or Thru-Hulls--Did the site let me down?

Allright. I listened to the wisdom of everyone on the site over the winter and spent my time ditching the log manifolds from my old 21 Nova with a 302 and going with center rise manifolds out the...

Re: Tachometer Gremlins !

I have an MSD Blaster 2 coil with a Prestolite electronic distributor on my old Nova, and I have some tach gremlins too! I was idling in the other day and the tach was saying 1200. I tapped the...

Re: Rebuild Holley 650's or buy new Edelbrocks??

I'm going to pick mine up tomorrow! Hopefully I'll have it back in the water by late afternoon. Last time I looked, they were about the cheapest local deal, and like I said, they took care of my...

Re: Rebuild Holley 650's or buy new Edelbrocks??

I just took an old Holley 450 that I bought on Ebay to get rebuild today.

I am running a 6117 Carter on my old Nova with a 302, and it is just too much carb. Carter/ Edelbrocks are great carbs....

Re: back fire out carb

Sounds to me like you have a gummed up carb. If you have to pump it to keep it running, it may be because it's getting too much gas for the amount of air that it is getting with the butterflies...

More water out one side of exhaust?

I fired up my old Nova last weekend, and was going though everything today to get it ready to put back in the water. I noticed that the right side exhaust is ejecting about twice as much water as...

Re: OT: 888 Outdrive Max HP

I have had no problems with my old 888. I'm not sure what sort of HP it is pushing, but it is well over 188 now.

I put a carter 4bbl, edelbrock intake, electronic ignition w/ MSD Blaster II coil...

Re: Any problems with oil filter relocation?

Thanks! I will triple-check. Toasting a motor with less than 25 or 30 hours on it would probably cause me to give up on boating go back to golf!

Any problems with oil filter relocation?

Anyone ever have problems caused by low oil pressure or anything else after installing an oil filter relocation kit?

I went to put my new chrome Holley fuel pump on last weekend, and low and...

Re: Blown headgaskets ? or not

You never know. I actually had ordered head gaskets (before the compression check) because I was so sure that was what it was, and I pulled the intake manifold, just in case--well, I put an...

Re: Blown headgaskets ? or not

He speaks the truth.... scheduled or otherwise, hard stops are worse than hard starts because of the risk of hydrolock. Bent valves, cracked heads, busted cranks, bent rods, pistons with holes...

Re: Cleaned my Gas tanks,Now what?

Tell it brother! I had the same problem when I restored my old Nova.

I used acid as well, but there was still a lot of crap that came out after that. I took my time, and thought it was clean,...

Re: Blown headgaskets ? or not

Do a compression check on the motor. You can get a compression tester at Autozone or any other car parts place for $30 or so.

To do the test, remove the coil wire (so the motor doesn't start),...

Re: Ford 351 power ?

233 measured at the crank sounds about right.

My Nova is a '74, 21'. It's a pretty big boat for a 21. High sides and heavy too. I always liked the old Novas when I was a kid, so I bought this...

Re: Ford 351 power ?

The Ford 351 Merc is 233 HP stock.

I have a 302 in my old '74 Nova that I hopped up. My boat kills the guy with a newer 21 Nova that has a 350 in it.

I just put center rise manifolds and 3"...

Re: alpha question.

FYI, the hole is a water outlet. I put a brand new outdrive on mine this summer, and I was surprsed to notice the water flowing out when I fired it up. After inspecting my dad's and a couple of...

Re: What next - Thru Hull or Cam?

Ahhh, the Chevy vs. Ford debate pops up....

I met a guy at my marina with a 78 21' Nova with a 350 4 bbl...

Re: Fuel Problem ?

Check the vents for blockages or try taking the fuel cap off. My buddy worked as a Marine Mechanic for many years, and he told me that spiders will get into the vents and build nests in them,...

What next - Thru Hull or Cam?

I restored a 21' 1974 Nova last year. It turned out sweet, but it wasn't quite fast enough for me. I had it up to 48 on a perfectly flat river at my parents house, but I barely break 40 out on the...
