Hydraulic is definitely the way to go if you have a need for it... Its ideal in any situation, but if your not pushing 60+ mph, I don't believe its worth the extra money, save it for gas.

Check the reservoir and makke sure there is fluid in there, I have the same setup on my 272 and it had a small leak, motor would run, no tab movement. Quick and easy check!

I have a 1994 272 with Mercury HP500 (Carb), Bravo 1, 1.5 ratio.

Started with a Labbed 26P and achieved 68mph (GPS) at 5000RPM

Switched to a 24P Stock achieved about 67mph (GPS) at 5250 RPM,...

Just as the title says, engine is cutting out when hitting waves hard. I've checked all power and ground connectiions, all ignition wiring and kill switch...

nope, the old gauge worked 2 seconds before I snipped the wires... no problems. I checked everything, even the ground at the sender for resistance, all is good!

The carbon is just vinyl graphics, I didnt want to spend the money on the carbon...
