Im going to be driving up the coast with my motor in the back of my pick up truck all strapped down, i have no cap or anything like that and ive heard its going to rain the entire time, its about a 12 hr drive too... the motor needs to be rebuilt and torn down anyway, but do i need to worry about a tarp or covering it?

Just cover the intake openings with some good tape. That should keep most water out. Or you could use a large heavy mil plastic bag and tape it tight to the engine. Not a big deal to get water in it unless it will be sitting awhile before being torn down.

go to home depot and get a cheap plastic drop cloth and wrap it up....dont have to be waterproof but atleast it will keep it from getting water logged.....are they gonna tear it down as soon as it gets to the shop? ive heard that one before and 3 months later it was still sitting there with salt water in the block!

Duct tape is your friend!!!!!!

take those valve covers off and let those babies breath.. water is your friend.... better not let your dad see you asking these dumb ass questions...

Covering it with the thickest MIL plastic you can find is definitely a good idea. Tucking it down with duct tape and/or 100mph tape would keep it in tact.
Also, tuck the motor right up behind the cab of the truck; against the front bed wall. This will allow most of the wind/rain to sail over it, and gives you a finite place of movement to start; especially if you have to cram on the brakes.
