A big thanks to DOT for not having standardized rules.. Im so tired of getting warnings and tickets over laws that are "entirely up to the interpretation of the officer"

Latest ticket: Overweight

Even though we weigh before and after leaving our plant and delivery location to verify true liquid off-loaded weight.

We had a truck at a customers location offloading some chemical from a flatbed tandem dually gooseneck trailer. I sent a 3/4 ton truck to pick up the flatbed so the driver could take his big truck in for service. On the way back, they were pulled over and ticketed for being overweight because (get this) the "trailer being towed showed a CAPACITY greater than the tow vehicles ABILITY to tow legally".. not word for word but...

basically we were ticketed for carrying a trailer that could have potentially held more weight than what was legal for the tow vehicle to carry.

Even after showing the officer the weight tickets, we were still fined.

the truck and empty trailer were well under the CGVWR..

So be careful out there. they are crackin down on everyone, over everything..

they have ticketed that for years in Missouri and illinois, I know several times that people moving empty boat trailers with small trucks have been caught on that.

thats on top of the other 3 tickets he wrote us.. One for not having a receipt for the item that we were hauling (we threw on an empty 400 gallon poly tank for our washdown system at the plant) and therefore couldnt prove that we werent delivering it for someone else. Since we didnt have a "not for hire" sticker, we have to prove anything that we carry is for our own use and we arent being paid to haul it. And a ticket for not having "Commercial Vehicle" written on the back of the truck. Which, according to the tag office, theyve done away with because it now says "Commercial Vehicle" on the tag itself and they dont even sell the stickers anymore. Another day in court I guess...

How much gross weight is your truck licensed for in the state it was ticketed in? Was your ticket for more weight than the truck is licensed to carry (not how much is it rated for but how much is it licensed for)?

intrastate licensed for gvwr. Single Rear Wheel 3/4 ton. We only have it registered as a commercial vehicle. Oklahoma doesnt register vehicle per weight like a lot of the northern states do.

So is there a way to "license" higher than the posted CGVWR on the door?

In florida, the dmv just ask how much weight you want to register it for....my neighbor has an older one ton that was an old fire truck. the vehicles rating is at 12,000 or something close to that on the door. The tag lady asked how much he wanted and he said the door said that, she said he can tag it at a higher amount....though i bet DOT goes off the door...so i am not sure what having a higher tag does other than they get more money out of you.
