oklahoma and texas are cracking down on one tone trucks pulling large trailers. in florida if the trailer has the ability to carry 15,000 then the truck has to have a regestered number of 26,001 to make u have a cdl. Its printed right on the oversize permit. In calif if the trailer has the capability of hauling 10,000 then you need a CDL.

Sounds like you better spend some more quality time with your tires then.

When I was OTR I pulled a 48' spread axle reefer trailer with an air lift on the lead axle. It's a common set up for owner ops who run LTL to the Northeast. Saves on tire and break wear when run'n light and saves on axle based road and bridge tolls. Never had a problem run'n east, but down south where nobody runs a set up like that I was always get'n pulled over. Ran across a lot of DOT cops that figured something was illegal just cause they had never seen it done.
