JL Audio vs. Wet Sounds

Hey guys,

Been seeing enough Fountain vs. the world threads lately, figured maybe we can argue about what we put in our boats

I'm considering changing up my system a bit. I am thinking I want to add one more pair of speakers either in the 7 or 8 inch range to my cockpit. Unfortunately Polk doesn't make one that size so I'll need to upgrade the whole cockpit.

I've heard both and I think they sound fantastic. Never heard them side by side so it's hard to pick. Wet Sounds definitely wins on cost, but when you want the best that isn't a motivator.

I'm sure we've got some experts on the subject, what does everyone think?

Pick what you like best. Everyone has a different opinion on what "good" sound is. I wet with JL because I liked the sound best and wanted true "marine" speakers. JL, Memphis, Focal, DC Gold and a few others are pretty popular.

Amps are just as important if not more so than speakers, and proper setup of gains, crossovers, levels makes a huge difference.

I put 4 Rockford fosgate 8" and two RF 10" subs in my 32' fountain. I think it sounds great.

I think that Wetsounds have the capability to handle more power and play louder than the JL

I don't think in a boat one has a significantly better sound the the other.

My boat is all JL, but unless JL ups it game when it comes to tower speakers, my next boat will have a Wetsounds system at least on the T-top.

I think the JL is better looking that the Wetsounds.

I have the perception that Wetsounds is much more expensive than JL when you include amp costs and availability. Everybody sells JL, nobody sells Wetsounds.

JL takes forever to get new products to the market, they showed an 8.8 tower speaker at IBEX, still not out yet, Wetsounds seems to be more innovative, with some cool products that make sense like the ability to link multiple boats together.

Maybe the ideal system is a mix of both.

I hear that the Focal speakers have an amazing sound but if it can't take a hose it's not going in my boat, probably ok for people who boat mostly in fresh water.
