Default Need a compact alternator - 496 manifolds on 454 Mag

454 Magnum set up with Merc 496 exhaust manifolds. The manifold hits the alternator.

What's a good, compact replacement?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Tom, can you go to a low mount alternator bracket?

Joe,

I don't think that would change it much. That bracket looks like it's in the same basic position.

This is what my guy used to solve the same problem when I put 496 exhaust on a 454.

70 amp mini - yours was most likely a 65 amp if I recall correctly.

That's not a marine alternator... but it looks like a Denso will fit.

Using that bracket, did it keep the belt alignment the same across everything? Power steering and alternator? I'm using a B&M blower and cannot make changes to the accessory pulley configuration.

That I am not sure of. Martin's Custom Marine did the work for me, you might want to PM him.

I was going by the ad as it says marine as well - that is for the buyer to completely to do the homework to find out if they are coast guard approved and spark resistance. I throw it up as I seen them before listing as marine.

I'm surprised, as I have 496 manifolds on a Mark IV block and had no issues putting a full size 10SI alt on using stock brackets. Had to do a little grinding for PS pump, but got it to work also.

What gen block is yours?
