hey guys, i bought a marine crate 502/502,its suppose to have the crane 169611 roller cam and all the goodies that go along with it to make an hp500. i'm worried i might of received a 415/502. is there a way to measure the cam without tearing down the motor?will pulling a valve cover tell me anything?

if you have a dial indicater you can check cam lift and compare specs.Otherwise you'll have to pull the timing chain cover and cam sprocket and hope the cam is marked.I personally don't know of any external differences but do a little more research, maybe they use a different intake or head casting.Good luck and hope you got what you paid for.

All Cranes are marked on the sprocket end with the grind number.
Dial indicator on a magnetic base plus a big breaker bar with a socket. Can measure lift with the valve covers off.
A 502/502 has aluminum heads

Yeah, but he's saying it has "add ons" to make it a HP500...
Add ons to a 502/502 would be:
install a marine dart intake and Holley marine 800 with a USCG approved electric fuel pump
Install a Merc TB4 ignition
Swap out the cam
Swap out the lifters
Install Crane Gold rockers
Brass freeze plugs
Marine head gaskets
paint it blue
*also the heads are different, but in freshwater the edelbrock aluminum head is a good un
