Its a question of if I need them. As you will see I am walking uncharted territory with my carb linkage. They dont make universal linkage for PSI,s. I am most likley going to attach something like the Keith Eikart side pull linkage. I need a beer its Friday! |
Re: New to me Skater.
trust me you will need the steppers been down this road many times so has sterling thats why they use them
|

Looking Good!!!

Re: New to me Skater.
gerry they mount on the secodarys its a solnoid trigered by the neutral safty swithch real simple and slick powered by 12 volts just stays on around 3 secounds then drops back to normal idle once the engine idle stablelizes pretty cool

Here is a comparison of the bottom of a 10-71 Mooney
compared to the PSI. |

The PSI is a 6lb cut. I beleave you can get them in 12 also.
I am running titanium .150 needle and seats. Double idler pulleys. 2000 series blower belt. Roger told me start at 40% overdrive. I also increased each fuel feed to the bowls to -8. I here these love fuel and are tough on belts. Should be close to 100 more hp just bolting them on. This is with the same boost level. |
Re: New to me Skater.
Fantastic post! I'm interested in how the PSI performs and what you end up doing with the full windshield. I just sent my lowers off also to have the swept backs installed. Did your 46 feel a little loose over 130 with the old style lowers?

After conversing with others and the minimal cost I decided on the swept backs. The drives are 3.5 inces above the bottom with no spacers. Far as the PSI,s Dont know the verdict is still out. I hope I am doing the right thing the Mooneyhams and engine combo ran flawless . I may wanna have my head examined. I have been told by Roger at PSI that they need all the fuel in the world and will run hot below 3000. I was waiting patiently for the Whipples but, after talking directly to the engine developer who tested the new 5.0s He said They are great for around 1300 after that he would stick with the PSI,s. No names being mentioned. More props to try next season. |
Re: New to me Skater.
Looks like things are coming along nicely, can't wait to see the final results. :D

Re: New to me Skater.
I'm running BDS 1471's. At 8 pounds my motors are making 1157hp. I'm not interested in more hp, I just love the look of the PSI's. :D
I have a 2000 40' and over 130 it definatly got a little loose with the old style lowers. I still haven't run any positve trim on it but I'm looking forward to the new lowers. My drives are 5.5 from the bottom. This summer I am also going to try some 5 blades. I have a set of 17x34 4 blades that I am going to send back to BBlades for a little tweaking but I still want some 5 blades You should bring that bad boy out to Desert Storm this next April. It's a great time. I look forward to your updates! :drink: |

Michael, Please let me know how the 5.0 whipples work out. I really wanted to try them. just no patience. CP Performance actualy has a part number for them in there catolog. Gerry |

Are you running spacers? Lets see some pictures! |

Gerry Good luck with the PSI's, they look great. Your set up looks similiar to what I was up against with the quad whipples. I was able to do some tweaking and used a longer shaft between the carbs. :D |
Re: New to me Skater.
Gerry whos inter coolers are you going to run if any?
Looks great hope the PSI works out!!!Also are you going to keep both sets of props? I'll be interested to see how the 5.5 compares.I,ll be doing a little spying at Marks. :evilb: Keith |
Re: New to me Skater.
No spacers. Hopefully the new lowers will be the setup. As soon as it gets done with paint I will post some pics. Don't forget about the winshield, keep us informed. :drink:

Keith, I have been using these Richard lee coolers
with the cupranicle cores. Less prone to core meltage. The big whipple coolers (MOAC) may be a better choice. but the lees are paid for. My intentions is to stay within the pump gas region. I am upgrading to multistage pumps as to do what I have never done before and force feed the intercooler with a dedicated stage. I usually tap it off the sea strainer so it gets water only under speed. My thought is the PSI,s need that xtra cooling at idle and low speeds. As props go. I will try both sets and most likely keep one. I would also like something smaller in the 32 33 range. Good for some "Smack down daddy punch"! :drink: |

Re: New to me Skater.
Looks like my super chillers,I was under the assumption the
PSI generated less heat with the screw type rotors. Dusting had mention some big gains with his coolers,I might try them with the 1471s just to compare. Then move up to the PSIs or 5.5s. Are you going to run the same set up to compare performance gains? |

Are you going to run the same set up to compare performance gains? Where the PSI becomes an advantage is the faster it spins the more efficiant it becomes. Dennis who runs the Predator Apache and Tommy at Chief confirmed a 80-100 hp gain just going to the PSI,s. I am by no means a supercharger expert. But a PSI overdriven at 40% is gotta sound cool! :D |

WHAZ UP JIM???? Hey with all the advice you have given I should send ya all my props :drink: The 37.5 are actually on there way to Herring along with the lowers. Chris Flood says HI!!! He,s suppose to call ya. He helped me out Great Guy! |

Re: New to me Skater.
I got the same info on the whipples creating alot of heat at low rpms. I still just ran off of the strainer. I have seen a few of Sterlings where they run the main feed (-16 I believe) off of the strainer but also tee in a smaller like -6 or -8 from the belhousing to give it some cooling while idleing. Some people think you can get to much cooling off of the Sea Pumps at Idle with a carb set up and get fuel pooling on the intercooler. I don't know, just passing along others info.
Anyway, good luck with the project and let us know how it works. |

This picture is the new 5.0 whipple see the opening this is to allow a vacuum controlled valve to bleed off the idle boost.
Feed it back under the charger. This was suggested by Roger. Pretty cool But where the heck are ya gonna put it on the PSI? |

Rigger he sets some up with that height. Mine is at 3.5 inches above the bottom. Peter told me on my hulll should be between 2.5 to 3.5. Using a 4 foot level. I leveled the boat on the trailer. Then level the drive with the trim. Then run the same level inline with the bullet of the drive. Holding this level up against the bottom and measure from prop centerline to the top of the level. |
Re: New to me Skater.
Thats The Way I Do It And The Most You Will Usally Find On A Race Boat Is About 4 Inches Keep The Updates Coming Glad To Help In Any Way Im Out At The Toy Factory A Lot Down In Sunny Florida Right Now Sitting By The Pool Not To Rubb It In Went To The Pri Show Neat Stuff Talk To Ya
