-Mike YESSSS!!! We Drink it all lighter fluid to Corona to JetA. It keeps us smiling:D Ok back to 101 I have noticed the pads on the calipers have significant wear already. (like 2/3rds gone). I think in figuring the type of pads to order we were a little lame in our assumption. I beleave the rotor speed to be approx 3000 rpm at idle. (6,600max.RPM at 100%n1--Idle is 46%N1 is 3036rpm) If you were to figure that as tire speed (60 inch tire covers 60 inches in one rotation) its traveling at a high rate of speed. That being said I have ordered the top of the line pads. They are wilwood 1000 dual piston calipers. |
. They do wear out pretty quick but not that quick. A set lasted for about a month or so of running 3-4 times a week.

Filled the 5 and1/2 inch old Piston exhaust holes.
Sorry I didnt post the procedure had no batteries for the digital yesturday. It hit 75 degrees....Got it done. Basicaly had the original plugs that came out of the hole saw mixed up some west system and through in some thickener I think its 406. Wraped the circles with some biaxial cloth to take up the space the hole saw took out. Threw the goop on and vwala. Backed up with some square sheets of biaxial from the inside of the transom. Note to self do this before putting all the riiging back in boat. SH@t gets everywhere. Couple sags in the primer. Hey what ya gonna do?:D 39 degrees today. So much for painting it. |

Ok Guys What the Heck was I thinking!:D
All I can say is it is incredible. You can not reach out to the dash when pushing the sticks Slightly forward. For those who have been in a Turbine boat you understand. When leaving the dock you are overwhelmed by the whine and smell of Kero. You glance at all the gauges not even knowing what the hell your looking at. You start by pushing the throttles forward slowly the Tachs climb to about 70% and unlike a piston boat ur still sitting there then the big tub starts to move. You push the stick a little further and now the scream becomes a woosh and ur on plane. The 38 Herrings are now just begging for some water to hurl. At somewhere around 50 mph I push the sticks about another inch The rooster is amazing and the Turbines change there tone as the Bleed ban closes your at 89mph in three seconds from 50mph Your looking at the torque gauge at 35psi which is about half throttle.. You now realize this boats gonna fly. You forget for a second that you have no clue at what your doing and decide you should stop and open the hatches to find all the mistakes you made.:hitfan: Minor issues like Pyro wire sticking to the exhaust and melting. Lost one brake cause of a cotter pin. CV joint blew a boot. Splatterin grease everywhere. All in All it was Good day. Stay tuned for Pictures and of course video! KR |
Have you wiped the smile off your face yet?
Minor stuff. Get her fixed and back in the water. I am concerned about the CV joint and drive shaft. Did you feel any vibration? |
Gerry great to hear you got in the water. So does that mean you in for the 1st run of season with us? I am going to wash and wax this weekend and be ready for next, Give me a call some time have a quick couple of questions for you and setting my "Piston Engine" to spec. Knowing the cv had no more grease in her held me back and the fact that my balls were the size of grapenuts cuz I was so nervous.:D |

3 degrees is max on the CV. I,m going to take the curse off that one by moving the engine inbound about a 1/2 inch.

Luckily enough it took it's final breath while it was idling. That may be the weak point in the system which is good. |

Here is the cv assembly.
Notice the boots are ripped. one side done next is waiting for me. |
Congrats on the initial run. Boat looks fantastic. After wiping out mount plates and breaking an extension housing because of a failed drive line, we now run full drive shaft guards, capable of containing the driveline if a u-joint fails for any reason. Good move on "return to fix"
|
The boot may have been bad to begin with. They get old and tired but yours does not look that bad. Well it looks prety bad now but you know what I mean. I replaced mine last year.

Love the first run play by play! Best of luck with her and I can't wait to see the pics and vid.

CV grease sticks to anything, I dont envy your cleaning job.. anymore CV problems, I would start looking in the offroad/desert circles for answers, there running decent hp, incredibly high shock loads and 24 degree angles.. leather boots are an option too....
