The best advice I can give you is to start a note book and record everything, engine height, gas in boat, each engine rpm's, what prop combo, air temp, water temp and so on. I also use a go-pro and take video's of my runs, it's hard to try and watch three let alone four sets of gauges. Believe it or not an 1/8" in engine height will make a big difference, so you have a lot of trial and error with two sets of motor heights. As for the props, I like the four blade dewalds, they slip less then the merc 3 blades and are easier on your drives. Boat looks great, have fun and be safe.

Thanks Carl. You're right there's a lot to keep an eye on besides focusing on the view through the 1/4 canopies that I'm still trying to get used to.
I was able to cross a couple of gremlins off the list. I had a hard start when warm issue with the port center engine. The ddt showed that the air temperature sensor was reading about 20 degrees below the other three engines. I replaced it and it starts fine now.
Also I had a no charging issue with the strbd center engine. It turned out that the harness connector for the alternator wasn't fully engaging due to the metal bracket surrounding it being distorted. Took care of that and now the volt meter is happy.
Its all getting better

davidmercury 10-26-2013 11:20 PM

Does anyone have any information to share on the effects of different rake angles and blade areas of cleaver props on bow lift or stern lift on catamaran hulls. Which is better for bow lift.
To take things to the next level, I believe that I need to move some weight back. When I let off the throttles at top speed i feel a loss of steering and the front of the boat wants to wander to port.
I will try lowering outside engines first to get more skeg in the water and see if that helps

I believe more rake will let the bow fly, and it doesn't take much to really change the attitude of a 36 skater.

Runninragged would you mind posting some pictures of that Cris cat quad set up. They're so rare, it be great to see how yours was set up. It sounds like my setup with the prop rotation is the same as what you had run. Is it still out there runnin?

Dave here is a video that have a Cris cat with four outboards:

That was cool video of 1987 key west races. It was interesting seeing the reverse direction on the race course. Your cris cat looked awesome.
If you have any photos of your set up I would like to see them

You can also get 1.75's for the 2.5 cases...The 1.62's are 3.0 liter gears. ;)

How's the new 26 bay boat running?

Thanks, the 26 runs 70, and is great to just go out and cruise around especially if I'm going boating by myself, easy to launch and retrieve, unbelievably frugal on gas

noli 12-20-2013 01:03 PM

This is good to know, I may be looking into changing ratios after a thorough prop selection process

runninragged 12-27-2013 01:29 PM

dave did you try inboarding the outside moters and leave the inside the way they are because you might be robbing water from thetunnel moters that way just a thought . there too many different things to try very time consuming good luck

I'm hoping NOT to have to do that, docking that beast is hard enough as it is, I'd like to leave the outside motors turning conventional.

Before and after: I came across this photo taken at Glass Daves Shop. It goes to show you what can be done when you've got the right people on your side transforming gutted to good.
Note the custom aluminum fuel tanks

Happy holiday's

I really appreciate all of your compliments on my white skater color choice. The beauty of white is that it is a "safe" choice in that it almost always looks good. Also it can be said that it is good choice when it comes to resale as it tends not to offend or repulse prospective buyers.
Having an all white boat can sometimes be likened to a relationship where there is no commitment or just living together. Even though we've greatly enjoyed the beautiful all white (less is more) look, it has come time to make a commitment of sorts and "take the plunge" with an actual paint/graphics package.

Well never mind. Looks great what we can see ya big tease!

I am glad to see that someone else thought that aluminum tanks vs. integral tanks is the way to go. When I buy my next cat it will have aluminum tanks even if I have to get them installed after purchase. My Talon came from the factory with them. I look forward to the finished paint David.
