Hey no problem, This boat has an interesting history for sure. Who was accurate marine?
It sounds like you know some things about this Skater.
Any stories that you'd like to share about this 36 would be greatly appreciated.
Also, anybody out there have any photos and/or historic info on this 36 please feel free to chime in on this thread, ( I'm sure Dave won't mind)

My vote is on design (top to bottom) #2. Dave's work and attention to detail is beyond words.

Yes, I'm glad to have my Skater in Dave's hands for sure.

Yea i guess its time for an update . . . . or a teaser for the owner. Anybody got a cigar? :D

Had the boat outside today, getting close to wrapping things up here. Got some incidentals like the tunnels and trim details but she's on a downhill run. :drink:

bring your sunglasses

Tell ya somethin else, I'm glad we decided to fill in ALL the holes on the boat. Nice clean slate to start with.

noli 06-05-2010 12:14 PM

Dave, awesome work! You definitely got the touch!

Can't believe the transformation. :drink:

It also looks like you're doin' some patch work on the inside of the tunnels towards the bow. Are you getting the hull ready for painting? if so, what colour will the hull be?

...and who's doin' the motors? how many HP/motor?

Yes the inside hull/sponsons are getting touched up as well. Hull sides, deck and dash are done in PPG's single stage Concept and the color is a nice clean white that i have been using for years, its a fleet white #91050. The color is brighter and cleaner then the OEM Skater color, we made a last minute decision to use it instead. We also decided through out the project to pretty much fill in everything. It had deck vents and a big bow rail that was also eliminated as well as every screw hole and deck fitting. Its pointless to leave things like the old gps antenna and snap holes when most will be replaced with something newer or mounts differently. I believe its getting four 2.8 Offshore Mercs at i think 280HP each.

We did decide to leave the race style lifting rings on the deck because . . . . . well . . . . . there cool :D

Very cool !! I feel your pain , been restoring my 32 for two years now . What did you decide to do about the open engine well from Skater ? Here is what I did if you need and idea

TOASTY 06-05-2010 03:32 PM

What are the small triangle pieces doing up under your deck dude? Is that so the deck doesnt crack when your girls pile on? nice touch must have been hard to shoot paint up there.
they look even.

i like that shade of yellow.

that white 36 is the tits that boat must haul.

I noticed those little things to, what are those for? Look like a pain to sand. Boat looks good, those 32's run great (like pretty much all of Peters boats :D)

KEVLARKAT32 06-05-2010 10:49 PM

good eyes !! they are solid fiberglass and glassed in . I lost my finger prints for a month after sanding it . The trick is SLOW activator to keep it wet

KEVLARKAT32 06-06-2010 08:07 PM

They are so when and if that area is stepped upon it wont flex and crack paint in case I decide to bring out a fat chick . Too bad your 36 is wider I still have mold for engine well

davidmercury 06-06-2010 08:56 PM

36 skater project

Thanks for the engine well offer, even though I definitely like the closed transom area, I couldnt possibly throw another change at GD, after all that we've been through with this 36
also: no fat chicks allowed

KEVLARKAT32 06-06-2010 09:04 PM

Yea but fat chicks they suck dick like a circus seal!!!!! Just a thought when your done with 2.5 blowing up @ 150 hours have Shaun Torrente bouild you 3 -3 Litre EFI strokers , 375 hp each , mine are almost done . He said 300 hours send them back for refresh. I WISH YOU NO BAD LUCK BUT THOSE 2.5 ARE TICKING TIME BOMBS

davidmercury 06-07-2010 05:25 PM

36 skater project

No thanks, there's a good reason why those 2.5s are used exclusively to this day in offshore racing.:lolhit: and I kinda like (and need the 8000 rpm capability)

KEVLARKAT32 06-07-2010 09:00 PM

the torque of a 3 litre is whats needed to move heavy objects like a 32-36 skater

glassdave 06-07-2010 09:19 PM

which motor is the 3 litre? just curious really.

noli 06-08-2010 05:32 AM

I also spoke to Shaun, as Larry suggested. What Shaun recommended me isto get a 3 litre fish boat engine. He told me "...the engines that says Salwater Series on the side, preferably 2003 or newer..."

Upon receipt of this engine, he will then do his magic. He prefers the engine to be delivered to him fully dressed. The exception to that is if you're mechanically inclined such as Larry and yourself, then you can send just the powerhead.

Shaun builds engines where at 4500 RPM the horsepower and torque are up there. This would preserve the motors for longevity. After 300 hours, send them back to Shaun for a refresh at a modest price.

And he does the magic you won't believe. I can't wait to see Larry's engines. I'm sure Larry will start a new thread on those engines ? :grinser010:

KEVLARKAT32 06-08-2010 08:10 AM

2003 and newer use the single Motorola ECU . Are you going to have a set built by Shaun Torrente ? For your superboat you will need 25 inch which you can pick up cheap

noli 06-08-2010 09:36 AM

I'm lookin to get into an older Skater 32

then have Shaun build me 2 of those baaad boys!

do you have pics of the motors you sent to Shaun?

I'd luv to see before/after pics

I didn't mean to hog this thread (da*****rc and glassdave)...this awesome thread!

L, maybe we need to move this to a new thread?

Dave, very nice to finally meet you. You do awesome work and it shows! You should def meet Larry-KevlarKat32. You guys have the same passion for your work/hobby!

On my drive up to Chicago, I stopped by Toledo OH, and see the bad boy 36 Skater that Dave's been working on. I got two words to describe his work: Awe-Some!

The owner must be very happy! Can't wait to see the quads on that baby :)

Here are some pics just so that the guys won't say I am holding out :grinser010:

TOASTY 06-11-2010 06:17 AM

Larry and dave are nothing alike. Larry thinks hes hulk hogan and a big shot. Walks around with a chip on his shoulder. You can tell once by meeting him but also through his writing. His work is good but he thinks his stuff is better then everyone eleses and constantly makes fun (ergo et seats...) of others at their exspense.

Dave is humble and experienced, and professional. Dave is also funny and doesnt try to be the center of attention.
He gets it done and doesnt need to tell you hes getting it done...

larry offered me a seat in his race boat in either 01 or 02 to race with him which i did. Hes good, but theres this high strung out stress about him. He was worried more about the spray and shine then the play in the gimble ring. he was concerned more about looks then about GO.

Chris

noli 06-11-2010 06:40 AM

I've met both guys and they do awesome work.

We all have different personalities...nothing wrong with dat.

"...let the person who is perfect and without sin cast the first stone..."

...did I ever tell you why I left Scream and Fly ? :grinser010:

There's someone nicer than Dave....me ! :)

TOASTY 06-11-2010 08:12 AM

i am not casting a stone. But i am suggesting that Dave is in THE BUSINESS, larry is a hobbiest...

Both do great work, both have 100% different peronalities.

i mean who names their kid larry anyway??!

all kidding aside, both Skaters are great, and cant wait to see them fly past me in 2-3 slop offshore

Hey thanks for the compliments guys, Toasty (Chris) i appreciate that.

Noli good meeting you the other day on your way through to the windy city. (By the way David i pulled the boat out so he could check it out even though it looks like it was in the same place when you were down monday:D She has never sat outside a single night . . . . especially now )

I will have that part number monday one way or another. I still am only coming up with the "J" shaped rail. I may need to start a quickie thread to see where we can get that stuff. You would think that would be a pretty standard rail. . . . . i can tell ya we'll need 164 10-24 X 1.500" pan heads and Nyloc's though:D I'll call ya Monday afternoon . . . . .

noli 06-13-2010 07:22 PM

What's the top end on a 36 with quad 2.5's

Anyone done this yet?

Critical Lift is doing 120MPH with triple 2.5's

let me know if you need help with RR or a part # for Stainless rail

glassdave 06-13-2010 10:27 PM

Thanks Larry, I found the stainless stuff but as it stands i think we're going with the oem aluminum stuff. Good idea bending and fitting before paint, I know the stainless can be tougher sometimes.

KEVLARKAT32 06-13-2010 11:02 PM

Good luck
