I know what you mean, I bought mine about a month before the big stock market crash in 08.

I was able to get the pieces of the newly powder coated midsections assembled over this weekend and went ahead and hung them on the transom. I'm going to replace the water pump housings and impellers, so should have the remaining two sportmasters ready to put on this next weekend

I fell in love with the 2.5 back when I had my first one on the back of an Allison River Race.

I had great success with them the way I run them

hey Ron thanks!, i'm still interested in that recessed camera mount but for daytime use. please keep me in mind when you have time to brainstorm. That would be an awesome compliment for the Garmin.
I'm open to alternate ideas/suggestions for bow mounted, aft facing camera set up.

Double Rigged 11-23-2011 06:54 PM

Dave, I will come up with something. Could probably find out a way to use a daytime bullet cam. I also found some cool color change underwater lights that I am going to install. Will post pics when done.

davidmercury 12-01-2011 07:41 AM

i definately like the idea of the pop up camera
what lights do you like?

Double Rigged 12-01-2011 11:07 AM

They are from Lumishore. I will be posting the install on my boat soon. Hope to put them in this weekend. I just sent you an email with brochure.

I've started working on the steering system.
I'm working with leftover Latham equipment from the triple set up. For that I'm grateful. It all seems very substantial and comes with awesome reputation.
I will be sending to Latham the original tie bars for modification to fit the new quad setup.

Lake rat Skater 12-06-2011 08:34 PM

Awsome project, you should bring it to Indian Lake next summer when you get it all finished.

Thanks!
i had some good times up there about 11 years ago. I'm long over due!
There were three 28 skaters that were all purchased at the same time, they were all friends and I had my spectre 30 triple at the time. Do you know who I'm talking about???
It was a blast, it kinda reminds me of buckeye ocean

KEVLARKAT32 12-07-2011 09:10 PM

What state is that?

Yep Jon Gillespie is my dad, I can remember when you brought the triple spectra up. Sadly my dad and Steve have sold their skaters and the only one left is the one that was in the mercury photo shoot with your spectra. I pretty much maintain the boat for him however so I get an occasional ride. In all seriousness though your 36 is a very unique boat and I'd love to see it sometime.

I liked meeting all of your family, Tell your dad hi for me. I remember you had a wild zodiac setup that you guys would go launching off of boat wakes.
yes, pm your contact info so I have it, and we can look you up. Is steve hale still up there? I heard that one of those skaters spends the winter in sw florida somewhere, that is probably the one that was in the photo shoot. We spend alot of time in around the boca grande/gaspirilla island area as my wife has people down there. I keep my eyes peeled for skaters but never see any when i'm there.
Also what ever happened to the lamb brothers? They were always eager to bring something out (remember that red 24) and run hard down the lake.

a project of this magnitude is great if you have ADD. If I start working on one thing and run into a problem or get distracted and by looking around I can quickly go off on to a new direction with something else.
So over the weekend I decided to work on getting the gas tank plumbing finished up. Thanks to GlassDave the tank pickups and fuel lines to the pumps were in place. I ordered sending units of the proper length (I went with 18 inch) to allow a little extra when fuel gauges showing empty. These livorsi units were reasonably priced and available.

I made sure that no teflon tape was used on fuel related fittings as it has the tendency to break down and wreak havoc in the fuel system. It seems that there is alot of disagreement and mystery when it comes to what is best to use on the threads of fuel system fittings. I'm not talking about the AN fittings. I'm referring to the pipe thread fittings such as found on gas tanks outlets. It was suggested that I use the permatex brand high performance thread sealant. So after installing the fuel level sender I used that product on the fittings according to directions and finished off with putting on the fuel delivery and tank vent hose and tightened everything up
