http://s769.photobucket.com/user/airlandandsea/profile/ Ha not so dumb afterall The boat was advertised as a 24' Skater. There are engines but I have my own pr of 1999 Mariner offshore 225 EFI's. I no nothing of outboard setup of my engines, depth to run Etc, I don't even know if they will work on this boat. I do know they run strong. This is a project that I know nothing about yet, but am excited and will soon enough. He will include his engines for 8K more, not run but spool over smoothly, no guarantee. If anyone figures these engines are worth the price I will do a compression test before purchase. No props, and I have no Idea were to start size or style. Boat on trailer stored inside heated shop for 7 yrs, only brought outside for pix. States gel, transom, bottom and floors mint. Missing seat bottoms and back bench, anyone has the parts?. $8K with everything including trailer, steering, less engines. After checking pix of other 24 dashes, guess it is a Skater. The last picture is of this knuckleheads boat, launched without the holly fukc plug in. The guy was a total duchebag I lent him $50 at the bar, never saw him again, left his boat for the marina salvage and clean up crew. Bastard!!!

Andy, to post pics do the following: 1. go to your account at Photobucket.com 2. click on the picture such that the image is centered and large (in size) 3. over on the right there's an area where the title says "IMG" , click once inside the white box next to "IMG" the characters will disappear , and the word "copied" will appear 4. go now to OSO, inside the "Quick Reply" box (where you type words) , right click your mouse and select "paste" 5. click the button "Post Quick Reply" 6. done works the same in SnF |
Did it. Bad news, he wants to keep the engines. 225 EFI's is what I have, should be good for towing tubers.
|
.
Your 225's should work. Please post some pics of the Mariner engines. |
New here (outboard) so bare with me. Just bought a 1984 24' Skater had 2.5 280 hp engines. Owner removed and sold them before I got there so I have no idea prop shaft location. I have a pair of 1997 Mariner Offshore 225's 25" shaft length and stock. Can you swap out ECU's for more rpm, reflash?. What should I use for lowers, do I need mids, what will work if anything with these power heads. Yes I know I need the old engines back no he wont sell. Limited money for a month or two. I want to play now. What props size pitch 3-4 blade round ear cleaver?, shaft length to start, prop shaft height from what point on the tunnel bottom/ X dimension to start with. I rigged my 30' Velocity 1600hp so I know some stuff. OB engines and what will swap/work is new to me. Thanx for any info. Andy...

.
Andy, post these same questions in SnF and you'll get lots of good replies. . |
Just posted on Scream and Fly, thanx for the input, are there any more outboard sites performance wise?
|
You need 20 inch min .......... 15 inch if you want the best . 25 inch for Grady White
|
.
for X-dimension, start with 1 1/2 inches above the bottom of the sponsons and keep your eyes in the water temps and pressure if you see speeds in excess of 85MPH, then get bob's nose cone installed http://www.bobsmachine.com/Nose-cone...sories_c21.htm The 25" shaft is too tall, you can get MAD EFI's mid sections to to 15" mid http://www.madefi.com/midsec.htm Dewalds props if you can't power-through the porpoising, you'll need tunnel tabs dang this is gonna be a lot of $$$ |
On a 24' , 20' mids work fine, that is what the boat was designed for. You will need a sportmaster gearcase or something with nosecones. There are alot of 3 blade cleavers for sale on scream and fly for sale that will work great. You'll need 28's or 30's for best all around. I have 200's on mine and it runs in the 90's.
|
I have a used set of 3L sportmaster gearcases LH/RH 1.62's that came off a set of 300x's I bought. Would sell both for $4k. According to Erik who I bought the motors from they just went through them. All new fluid and the clean grease everywhere when we took them off. I would say they are in decent shape and not bad for the money. Beats 5k each for new ones.

Send me some photos I'm interested

double...do they have upgraded seal kits already???? |
Pix if possible sounds like a great deal. So I would just need 20" mids and bolt my power heads to them then install your sportmaster gear cases to them?

I can post some pics tomorrow but if you send me a pm with your email address I will send you some with a higher resolution.
They are two piece shafts but that can be changed easily. For someone trying to put a set of starter motors together it is not a bad deal. They do not have the seal kits. Stock seals for the shift shaft and I have not removed the water pumps. According to Erik they were just gone through as he was planning on running the 300x's on his boat before he bought the motors from ZP. |
well I pulled my lowers yesterday, I'll know what I'm looking at soon with those. Double you should have my email. You can send the pics there.

Andy, you will need jackplates to fine tune the engine height. but for low-budget running, may be able to go without them. from the pics, it doesn't seem that the original owner used jackplates. Not sure if the 25" mid would allow you to install the engines high without the use of jackplates. http://www.cmcmarineproducts.com/pro...al-Jack-Plates . . |
25" too tall. Talked to a few guys 20" is the way to go and use the 3rd bolt holes on the mid. No jack plate required. So now I need a 20" mid and a speedmaster gear case. Looks like double has what I need gear case wise.I'll pm him and look for a mid and a set of 28 cleavers.

There is a guy close by me that has a sportmaster lh with 1.87 gears best to pass as I thought the gear ratio of choice is 1.62?
|
are your powerheads 2.5 liter or 3 liter?

how about a pair of 300 hp Johnson low hrs V8 4 liter or Merc 300x ?
|
Just bought 1 300x, will I go in circles if the other engine is a 12v trolling motor? If so has anyone got another 300x as I hate bed spins!
|
.
contact the user: River Rocket over in SnF, he might have a 300X to sell you read his thread: http://www.screamandfly.com/showthre...inator-Daytona his quotes: "I have a 300x" "I will not respond to PM’s or posts about selling with the 300x. Call and we will talk. " Geoff 612-599-0444 Additionally, keep scanning the classifieds in SnF as the information about the engine that you want is embedded in the ad and may not be easily seen. As an Example, Geoff is selling his boat, he just happens to have an extra 300X engine laying around in his garage that he may want to part with. Also in other ads, ask the guys who are selling their boats if they want to sell their 300X engine only. 300X engines are Yummy! Thanx for the heads up. Will call him tomorrow

How'd you make out, was he willing to sell that bad ash motor? . |
10K. Has 500 hrs. Seems a lot with that many? What do you think as I am new to these engines.
|
.
I saw a 280 ROS powerhead selling for $7K and it sold. This one is a complete motor so $10K seems reasonable from what I'm seeing them being sold for. |
Just curious, Anyone know whatever happened to the cut down canopied 24 Skater that Lake Cumberland was selling quite a few years back? Was a really sharp boat but they wanted a lot of money for it. Also was wondering if a rumor I heard was true that Pete/Skater was tossing up the idea of re-introducing an updated 24 to the market. Is this a this a true story or just a rumor???

Posted pic of the 2013 ozark shoot out made one pass 121mph with some 2000 promaxes.this year will be running some 2005 300x powerplants, test ran the new engines with 50 gal of fuel back seat in no race hatch an hit 122 with no problem, so I am hoping to hit some good speeds this year at the loto running lite.
|
Great looking boat. Just bought myself a second 300x for my 89. One with 6 hrs other with 144 has torquemaster with bobs cone that i will replace before splashing Do you have a 20" sportmaster lh for sale? What props are you running. Any rigging tips, handling quirks as I am new to outboards and tunnels but not new to fast boating. Andy
