the 400's didn't look so massive on the dcb....guess because of the depth of the hull. this thing is looking bas azz nasy...like we expected anything different LOL.

thought there were going to set these 400's farther off the transom though.

I spoke to Pete and he felt more comfortable having them closer as its a bit rougher where I run in the Northeast. His words. Didn't feel it would effect performance. Im sure if they don't get the numbers they anticipate they would set them farther back. Ive been talking to my friend who owns the DCB and they actually brought those motors closer to the boat as they didn't like it so far back. I think he had 12 inch setbacks originally. Now they're only 5. There is a notch in the hull on that boat. Maybe 6 inches. Im not sure. Would equal a total of 11 inches back. The jackplate on mine is only 3 inches I think. Gotta be the smallest one Ive seen. Sounds like they wanted them as close a possible to the boat. Maybe they've learned something about these motors we don't know yet. Merc is customizing (CNC) props for the boat. Maybe that has something to do with it. Could be 5 blades can't remember what Pete told me.

........................ And yes Steve, those are only 3" setback manual jackplates from R & R - they're the best design jackplates on the market imo. Pete recommended them to me a few years back, so I installed a set of 6" on my MTR - they're super solid and very easy to adjust. Not the lightest jackplates on the market, but who cares about a few extra pounds - you need strength for those monster 400s!

Well it handles that water very well. At GLOC Shootout this year we hit some big wind chop and cruiser wakes. Helt's brother Mark was in the boat with me and was shocked how the boat got on top of it. Same story last year at LOTO running with a Cafe Racer to the Shootout in the rough. My Son Will has four vertebrae in his neck fixated. He does well on our lake which get rough but not LOTO rough. I would be very concerned at the other Lakes. I haven't had it offshore yet but can't wait. So the boat handles it we great but IDK if your back would.

Looks like swept skegs. Merc will take care of that I bet.

Those are the correct skegs. The lower unit for the 400 is massive and much bigger in size than the 3L Sportmaster.
IMO you will need to get that big monster out of the water and high as possible.
