If you like water, then TN is the place to be. The Army Corps of Engs. and the TVA succeeded in damming up just about every river and stream in the state.
We have 2 lakes and a river here in Nashville and 10 more within a 2 hour tow.
No state income tax
................Yes there are rentals around Dale Hollow and rapidly developing Center Hill. The advantage to CH, is it's only 1 hour or less to Nashville.
It's 2 hours to Dale.
If we can be of help in the Nashville area, my wife is a real estate agent.

Steve

Dale is dock restricted. Marinas only. Same for Center Hill.
Both have plenty of nice facilities however.
You can get a house with a private dock here on Old Hickory Lake, where the pictures of our Fall Run were taken. It is pretty nice considering it's in suburban Nashville. The other lake in town is equally nice (Percy Preist), but is dock restricted.

Steve, Thanks for the responds. I need a lake that is large so I won't tire of it and I need a dock and a lift so I can boat anytime I wish with minimal effort. I am traveling to Loto in June of 2007 with my boat for a week stay at the lake. Long pull but I need to experience the lake with my boat. I would consider looking at real estate in Nashville on the water. My best friend lives in Old Hickory and is a chiropractor there so I get to Nashville usually once each year. I really like the area. Nice weather and great people and the real estate is affordable compared to California prices. Thanks Doug

Doug,
If my wife or I can be of any help while you're in the area, just give us a shout before you head this way.
FYI, I have a friend that keeps his 388 Hustler on a hydrohoist at Center Hill at a marina for the same reason. The commercial docks are generally easy to work with if you want to install a hoist in a slip on the restricted lakes.
Regards,
Steve

Doug,
The house across the street from me (i'ts on the main channel) is up for sales. Bi-level for $550K. Over priced,so can prob. be had for $400k+.You can sit on your porch or dock and watch everyone go by. Just a thought. Ken.

With that budget, I am sure Tonya can find you something you will like.
I will have her start looking for for you to give you an idea of the houses and pricing.
Thanks for the Sacramento invitation. I love California, it is a beautiful state. Been there several times, always wanted to go to Yellowstone.

For those that are looking to vacation on Dale or Cumberland, think about renting a houseboat. You can find a nice cove to base the houseboat out of and have your os for speed runs. I think my favorite vacation was when we rented an 80' boat and towed 2 ski boats and 4 wave runners as we moved around the lake. I would much prefer being on a houseboat than in a cabin on shore.
I can't speak to Dale Hollow but Cumberland is nothing like LOTO, you see almost no homes on the lake, the sides are quite high and there are only a few places to stop to eat and drink, most of them are attached to the marina's which are spread out. I know a lot of the lake is located in dry counties so you have to make sure you stock up before getting there. I think because of the dry counties and the lack of places to eat on the shoreline much of the partying occurs on the houseboats. It is not uncommon to see several groups of 80' boats tied up together. Believe me I am not an expert on these lakes so you local guys feel free to correct me if my observations are incorrect

Sorry for sticking in my $.02, but we just listed our Old Hickory lake home yesterday. It has a dock and is in the $700's. It should be on the net in a day or two. Here's some pics. Feel free to PM me for more details.
Steve - I didn't know your wife was in real estate. Be sure to let her know since our new home is nearing completion!
Thank,
Jeff
