Lake Harris Chain Fun Run - May 10th!

Lake Harris Chain Fun Run - May 10th!

We would like to extend on open invitation to anyone interested in participating in a Fun Run on May 10th, to be held on the Lake Harris Chain of Lakes in Lake County, FL.

Once we get an idea on participation levels we will make the necessary arrangements to accommodate our crew for lunch. As of now we are either going to do a stop for lunch at one of the local water front venues, or have a BBQ lunch catered lake side. This will really depend on the participation level.

This is a no fee's event "Fun Run" (lunch is on you) and is a warm up for our 2nd Annual Lake Harris Rally Poker Run to be held later in the summer. We will be discussing the Poker Run during lunch at the Fun Run. We have some great ideas for the Poker Run, so come out have some fun, and voice your opinion on what you would like to see this year in the Poker Run.

As an added bonus we are trying to arrange for afternoon "Radar Runs" on Big Lake Harris for anyone that wants to stretch there legs. This not a confirmed activity YET, but we will see what we can do.

So who's in?:cool-smiley-011:

Someone asked about hotels..

A good list of hotel options can be found here...

http://www.lakeharrisrun.com/gpage1.html

The first hotel on the list is pretty centrally located and close to decent ramps.

I was looking thru the pics, let me ask you, will 50 MPH be fast enough??

27Fountain 04-23-2008 07:34 PM

Should be o.k. Water level is good for now. Ray likes to put in @ Hickory point. I still like Venetian Gardens. Should be a good day.
Barry

Rick
You should be able to have a blast @ 50 The lakes are about 8-10 miles long connected thru a min. wake zone canel should help keep the pack together.
Barry

You are good to go at 50.. Here is a link to a waterway map of the lakes..

http://www.lcwa.org/PublicFiles/GISR...is-chn-map.pdf

We will be running primarily in Lake Harris, Little Lake Harris and Eustis. There are other options like Lake Dora, but the canal is tight and Lake Griffin that is connected via a lock. Could make an interesting trip through the lock!!!! hummm...

Barry,

Thats cool, just wanna keep y'all in sight, so I dont get lost before the no-wake zones:D Its actually running 54 untrimmed right now, last time out my wife was with me, and she dont mind speed, but doesnt like to get air, so I kept the motor down, and throttled thru that area by the inlet(yeah, where i broke down). I have a few tricks I could do to get a few more MPH out of it, but it ran so damn good Sunday that I am probably not going to touch it before the run:D

Sounds good, as long as I can keep sight of the 2nd slowest boat I will be good:D I am used to running last.

I printed the map, and posted it next to my monitor on my desk to keep me motivated, Wife says she will let me know by this weekend if she will be along for the ride.

I'll stay with ya rick....

Xray50 04-24-2008 09:58 AM

Jack. The lock sounds like fun. Haven't been thru it. There's alot of water to run in after the lock, right?

Maritime_Eng 04-24-2008 10:19 AM

Sounds fun where is Lake Harris? How far of drive is it from Cape Coral?

How many boats are planning on going?

Thanks
Don

40magnum 04-24-2008 10:57 AM

I'll be there (if I have a boat)

I would say about a 3 hour drive. Head north on I-75 or east over to hwy-27 then north. Lake Harris is up near Leesburg Florida.

27Fountain 04-24-2008 11:00 AM

Lake Harris is in lake county Leesburg,Tavares ,Eustis,Mt. Dora are all citys on the lakes. I would guess 200 miles north up 75.maybe 3.5 hrs

27Fountain 04-24-2008 11:04 AM

matt
bring the lighting up. that boat seems to be priced right.
Barry

27Fountain 04-24-2008 11:06 AM

Randy
Sat or Sun Harris or ST. Johns ???
Barry

Maritime_Eng 04-24-2008 11:07 AM

This could make for a fun weekend. I haven't been on Fresh water since I moved from MN three years ago. What is the lake like? Is it deep to run all over or is it really shallow? What is the speed limit on the lake?

Where is the best Hotel to stay at? What is the best ramp to use to put in a 30' boat?

Thanks
Don

40magnum 04-24-2008 11:10 AM

that could happen, i traded the ex on a 34 fish boat yesterday,
any buyers for a 35 lighting going to be there,
barry the pics jen took came out great
Matt

27Fountain 04-24-2008 11:15 AM

you never know who might be a buyer. If I were ready to move up. That would have my name written all over it.

Xray50 04-24-2008 01:35 PM

Don, I stay at Inn on the Green. They have a large truck parking lot on the side of hotel. It's easy in and out. I'm 26 feet. It's clean and cheap. It's a place to sleep. Here's the link:

http://www.innonthegreenflorida.com/

Tell the girl you want to be over by room 101. thats where the trailer parking is.

We'll just get ya a stripperpole with a flashing light at the top so I can see ya going thru the canal when I show up:D

Don,

I posted a link to some hotel info on the first page of this thread as well. Lakes are not northern lakes, so no where near the depth im sure you are use to. You can expect 15-25' with some deeper areas to be had. Most of the lake is pretty safe, but the water level is down about 3' from normal, so some of the canals can be tricky.

There are several ramps that will accommodate you and my suggestions would be.

Buzzard Beach (Hwy 441 Tavares,FL)
Venitian Gardens (South St, Lessburg, FL)
Hickory Point (Hwy 19, Between Tavares and Howey-In-The-Hills)

No speed limit on the lake.. YET!!! :)

Rick,

I will probably have my kids with me, so I will stay with ya.. ;) They are good to around 50~60.

Lots of water... If the channels where clear we could run through the locks all the way to the Silver River (Silver Springs). GREAT RUN.. have done it many times, but I'm not sure what the water level is like on the Oklawaha River.

I will make some calls, and we may have to send out a scouting party!!!

If I can sneek in a few "Square Grouper" from South America, count me in for the 10th.

"Barry" made me burn my tanks dry yesterday!

Maritime_Eng 04-28-2008 11:30 AM

Any idea how many boats you are expecting for the run on the 10th? We are still thinking about comming up.

Also are there any good bars in area that have some fun night life? I am not looking for anything fancy. I'm 27 and my Girl Friend is 25 and we just like to find the bars that have a good rock band and cold beer.

Thanks
Don

Good question Don,

if not, we'll start a party somewhere:D

ZBODaytona 04-28-2008 03:12 PM

well there is a newer country bar called rodeo in mt dora, then there is McGregores more of just a bar down the road from rodeo, then there is Shea's it is real small. Also I like going to froggers, it is a resturant..but it has a nice bar and stays open late, plus the wife works there. If you want pool there is a hall called fat cats in the same area as rodeo.
Then in leesrbug there is Jesse Blacks...but not sure if that is what you would like..i am not a big fan.

no places that really have rock bands live. Unless something special is going on. Though McGregores sometimes has something playing. Froggers has a jukebox. There is a place in Eustis that sometimes has a live person or persons as well. CAVelocity on here knows of a group that goes to different places that isn't bad. Maybe he can find out where they are playing that weekend.

We can hook ya up!

damn...I am feeling old at 37 now!

CAVelocity 04-30-2008 07:30 AM

I'm planning on being on the water on the 10th. I may be able to get some aerial pictures that day as well......

As far as going out that night..... I'm sure we'll be able to find a place to go. I'll check this weekend to see who's playing next weekend at McGregor's.... but Jack may already have something else in mind.
