Naples and Marco Island are far enough away from the Caloosahatchee River to be effected by the lake run off. Also, I boat and live right along the river, I haven't seen anything close to the horror story the media likes to report. Sanibel is a great relaxing resort island. No franchise restaurants or fast food. Very laid back with tons of nature, white sand beaches loaded with shells and smaller resorts. Fort Myers Beach is more tourist trap style but still relaxing.
