No, a Wrangler is not the best tow vehicle, but it works fine around town.
When ever I've gone on the highway, I've used my wife's Grand cherokee. Even with only the 4.0L engine, that will tow at 75mph no problem.
I had both my 24' Pantera and my 24' Super on the scale at the local gravel pit. Neither was over 4800lbs including trailer, fuel and gear.
Any rig rated for 5000lbs towing will be just fine for these boats so long as you have brakes on the trailer.

Pat, you've got to be a bit crazy towing with that Wrangler! :-)

Way back when, I worked in the parts dept at the local Jeep dealership. Back then they were rated to tow a max of 500 lbs. I can't imagine they changed that. They still have the 4.0. I think the suspension may have changed since then.

We use an Extera at the Race sites to pull my 30, works great up to 10 miles or so, I wouldnt use it on trips, ie to the race site.

I tow my 24 with a 4 x4 V8 Explorer with the factory tow package. Works fine around town or highway as long as you have trailer brakes.

Well, you do what you gotta do. I've towed it with my 2 wheel drive Ford Ranger too. She's a 5 speed and the clutch has been smoked a few times...:eek:
Yes, my Jeep has a 4.0L and I believe it is rated at like 2,500lbs towing. Honestly, my Jeep is fine around town (below 50mph) so long as the trailer brakes are working. I use 4 low to pull the boat out of the water and the clutch is still fine. She crack 100K a few weeks ago and keeps on ticking...:D

i agree w/ pat, that a truck w/ 5000lb rating will be fine.
I towed my 24pantera w/ the wifes lexus GX... no problems.

Nice Rig!!!

I know you're wondering about 24's, but realize my Y2K only weighs 5300 fully loaded! I like overkill, so the towed boat is less than ~75% of tow vehicle capacity. My F250 diesel 4x4 doesn't even strain with the SB attached. That said, for local short towing there should be no prob towing at near the capacity ratings, but like said on this thread, if you plan to do long hauling you may want to reconsider more capacity - at least more braking power.

Thanks, one more thing that you might want to think of. Because Breaks are gonna be one of the weaker areas of your setup see if the trailer has breaks on it and make sure that that they are totally up to the task...will really help if things get hairy...not to mention it is a lot more weight back there over the Allison (not sure if you have trailer breaks now)
